PT1911 or Custom II

I am looking at the taurus pt1911 and the kimber custom II. I know that the taurus is off list but can get a near new one at a really good price. The kimber costs quite a bit more but do you think its worth it for a name only. The stuff that the taurus has on it that would normally be a custom shop kind of deal is pretty impressive so its really a name thing. What do you guys think?

What exactly does the PT1911 have going on that's not available on other stock 1911's?

Kimber is a great gun, no question. Not so sure about the Taurus. I've got a Taurus revolver that I'm really happy with, but I have handled a Taurus Thunderbolt rifle that was a total piece of crap. Seems like their products are hit and miss.

If price is an issue, as it would be for me also, I'd take a look at Springfield. I'm pretty sure you can get a new GI model 1911 for $400 - $500.

And they advertise the same thing on the taurus site as well as their flyers that you can get. They just have a lot of bang for the buck. Thats the way I'm leaning but am interested in the other side of things with the kimber and figured that they'd hop in and tell me the nitty gritty on why kimber is better product based on ???

Taurus is not on the CA List, and I am pretty sure of that. Been a lot of discussion about how Taurus is losing money by not having it approved for CA use

I am a Kimber Fanatic after shooting various other manfactured 1911 and .45's. So my vote would be a Custom II or go for a SA 1911 that would better suit your wallet

I'm not a fan of Kimbers but they are good guns. The Taurus isn't.

Look into a Charles Daly 1911 made by CZ.

Wild Sports here in Sacramento occasionally has the Kimber Custom II on sale for $699. If $$ is a big factor, get a Rock Island Tactical - it's on the list and comes with almost everything the Taurus does.

My Kimber Custom II's fit is very nice. Racking the slide is really smooth like it is on ball bearings. The fit is actually nicer than my more expensive Raptor II.

I am thinking about putting my Custom II up for sale sometime next month but still can't decide.

if you're going for a 1911, and you're going to spend a few $$, then i'd look at the big boys. Les Baer or a Higher end Kimber. I did the opposite, I got a nice little Rock Island and added a few items to it. All in all it ended up costing about 750 total (trigger job, trigger, sights, polish ramp, VZ grips).
