Nice gun! I have what is supposed to be a Model 19, but there are no markings that I can find stating such. The serial # is under the grip, starting with a K, and the gun is stamped ".357 Magnum," but I don't see a 19/19-x anywhere. I bought it over 20 years ago for $250 with a hand-written receipt. It had been bought new in '71-'72, and tossed into a closet. It didn't come with a box, but it had never been fired. I haven't put more than 200 rounds through it over the years, all .357 magnum.

I think the Model 19 came out in 1955. I know that the Model numbers starting being used in 1957. Are you sure your gun was made in 71-72? It sounds like a fine early gun as is, and even extra special if it was pre 1957.

That's what I was told by the seller (or what I remember), but either of us could be wrong. I will try and run the serial# through S&W and maybe take and post some pics. It is a nice gun; it just hasn't had much range time over the years.

I don't think K prefix on serial number started until after model numbers were introduced.

The K prefix started right after WWII. The K prefix indicates it is an adjustable sighted K frame revolver.
