Which 22LR handgun: Walther, SIG, any others?

    Hey CG'ers,

Looking for a HD firearm for my better half. New to handguns and doesn't like recoil. Ive made a decision to go 22LR route. Ive done research and looked all over youtube already. Now im asking you all what your thoughts are. Pretty much narrowed down to either Walther or the SIG Mosquito. Thanks in advance for your input.

If you or your better half like the feel of a 1911, Browning makes both a compact (85%) and a full size 1911. A little more expensive than the Walther or the Sig.

The Sig has a bad rep. If you can find a M&P22 via PPT, man, that is a sweet gun.

Normally, 22 LR doesn't feed best in semi autos. For this fact, a revolver would be better for HD. Ruger LCR-22. Use high quality rounds, since a hang fire can be dangerous.

.22 Revolver for HD, .22 mag. preferred.
At least have her try that before dropping to .22LR.

There's a nice compact smith and Wesson revolver at the turners in Esco chambered in 22 mag. I would go with something like that. It's a bit pricey though for what it is. Can't remember the model.

Edit: j frame 351PD $759 msrp. It's a nice little pistol though but expensive.

.... And when's she's ready to move up to .38SPL, the 6 or 7-shot 686 is exactly the same size, weight, feel, etc.... even shares the same grips.

I would never consider using one of my rimfires as a HD piece. A .38 Special with 125gr. HD loads for my wife, easy to shoot, more effective.

I would definitely go the .22lr revolver route. Tried the conversion kits for my semis, and they just don't do it for me. Also, if your wife/SO rides horses at all (or hangs out in the wilderness), having a .22lr loaded with snake shot works much better with a revolver.........

I have a Browning Buckmark Contour 5.5 urx and it has been amazingly reliable. Thousands of rounds through it and never a misfeed or misfire with all kinds of .22 lr ammo through it. Extremely accurate also. Heavy also so when I say no recoil, I mean zip. Reliable enough that I would consider it for home defense.

Another vote for the Buckmark if you're sold on the 22LR round. It will keep on going just like the Energizer Bunny as long as you keep it clean.
