All you need is the Glock 17, and you're set for life.
    Enjoy.

FWIW... My first semi-auto was a G34 tactical/practical. I've bought and sold many handguns since... but my AR/G34 combo remains my go-to.
Also many excellent training classes are available... incl. front sight near LV which offers several classes on both platforms.

1911 in either 45 or 9mm. That was easy- let the addiction begin!

As others have said a good revolver or Glock 19 would serve you well as a range/home protection pistol. Don't overthink your first purchase, it's only a gateway drug to high end 1911s. All true addicts will end up with 10mm autos, N Frame revolvers, and 1911s...... Those who disagree are still in thee denial stage :-)
