It will hurt the bear if you can hit it.
I had a Ruger Alaskan 480. I bought it for the same reason, but it was like hitting baseballs with a cracked bat, and the accuracy was terrible.
I replaced it with a S&W 629 with a 6.5" barrel. It's more accurate and slightly more comfortable to shoot.
Congrats though. it's cool looking. I hope you like it.

Wouldn't be my first choice for bear defense though, but it'll surely do the job.

Did you actually buy the 629PC or are you just posting a picture?
If you are actually going to carry this for bear protection I'd strongly recommend you practice, practice, practice.
I'd also recommend you educate yourself and carry something more approiate "if" you really think there is a threat.
