Bottom line is the 23 very good firearm. CCW, punching paper or plinking

If you can find a G23c then go for that. Compensated Glocks are awesome. Definitely a noticeable difference in recoil. Don't listen to anyone that says the flame coming out of the barrel will blind you or any of that BS.

The only Glock I own is a 23. Good choice.

some people most probably think that paying more for something they're getting less of/from is not smart at all. i believe they're right.
of course, these are just my opinion.
My buddies were all into steel shoot at Pleasanton and IDPA at Richmond.
So yeah, I have to warm up BC public ranges are different.

My father is a retired Treasury Agent.
We used to shoot a lot, depending if he was working here or DC.
He retired at GS17, made GS15 very early, so me walking on to a range wasn't going to be an issue.

K frames, Sigs, Glocks are what I gravitate to, I never liked the Smith autos.
            Specific models were always around.

There are a couple timed standards the 229's always did better than 23's.
So yeah, I have some class issues based on how the guy in the white uniform shirt treats people going thru the metal detector or the ID check gate.
There's a class deal based on service weapon, pay grade, and whether you have to give your case up to another Agency.

A Glock is a perfectly serviceable pistol, just like a Crown Vic is a perfectly serviceable car.
            I wouldn't pay top $ for serviceable.

^^^ wow... class issues... white uniform... retired dad... Crown Vic...
Voluminous post, but how does that prove anything other than what you previously stated - you're a gun snob.
And it's OK - I am sure there are "cooler" guns out there, and more accurate ones too. I, for one, would love to own a SIG P210 one day.

But how in the world did anything you posted indicate that Glock is NOT one of the best values out there?
"I wouldn't pay top $ for serviceable." - Who is requiring you to? At around $500 retail, how is that a top $? Again, SIG is a fine pistol, but it costs twice the $$$.
It is fine to wear designer clothing, but it is stupid to belittle Wrangler jeans solely because they are less expensive.
"There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights. War for any other reason is simply a racket."

I've got a 22, 23, 24, and a 34. I use .40 only due to PF requirements for USPSA, but when i use the 34 in production my times go way down from really quick shots. Love the 9mm. If it wasnt for the PF issue and the cost of offloading all my stuff and reacquiring it I'd probalby just go all 9mm.

Side note, the glock 30 s the size of a 23 and 10 rounds of .45. Also, if you were really concerned about vaporizing something you could get a 9x25 dillon conversion barrel and some 90 grain rounds from underwood ammo.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

Haven't bought yet, I may have to try a 30s as I can get one. I was thinking it may be bulkier and heavier

                        This

Nothing especially wrong with the .40 cal, but little to recommend it.

Go with the 30s or a 19 and be happy.

Don't let the 40 cal components influence you, maybe that's why you were gifted them in the first place ...

Glock 30s or 29s, or preferably gen4 would be fairly ideal for a CA ccw piece, if you want max firepower and if you don't want to have to explain your standard cap ownership to ignorant-of-the-law LEO'S. These sized guns are perfect for winter carry, under a jacket. I have my po7 on me right now, and it's very concealable in winter clothing. I don't mind carrying a g17 either, but the 4", 15rd "compact" sized guns are a little bit easier. Same for g30/29. 6000 rounds worth of components is a decent stash. Might as well load em up. If I were you, I might just get a g29sf/gen4 and shoot the .40 out of it.

                                I have a 26, a 19, and cz PCR.

I'm ditching the PCR off mine because it doesn't match.

Got a G30 to replace it.....just because another 9mm Glock makes no sense and I'm not paying $1000 for a G43.
