Love my 6" half lug 629. Such a sweet shot and fits my big hands perfectly.

I have quite a few .44's. My non-hunting favorite is the 624 in 6". Just good fun to shoot.

I only carry a 4" when hunting in dangerous territory. I far prefer the 6" models at the range. The 8"-9" models are somewhat unwieldy off-hand and take real practice.

The Rugers will definitely take more punishment in the form of really heavy loads. I don't find them visually appealing but they are real workhorses. The Super Redhawk is something only a chunk of steel could love.

I generally don't shoot specials in a magnum because I despise cleaning the crud ring. In my experience shooting a reduced magnum load works better in a magnum revolver than specials.

I enjoy shooting my 29's. I recently picked up a 69 and it's a pleasure to shoot as well. Reloading is a must for any caliber that you shoot.

Like I said I own one I love this gun. Shoot one you will be pleasantly suprised how,it handles the the hot loads. It really is a great shooter.
But as others have said may want to rent one if possible.

I bought my 629 w/4" barrel several years ago and it's still my favorite to shoot, hence my name. You can shoot light, medium or heavy loads in 44 mag, or you can shoot 44 special if you don't like the recoil. Personally, I'm addicted to full magnum loads. I love the recoil.

                  I had a Taurus 44 Mag. 6.5" ported barrel.

The recoil wasn't a problem, but I did not like how the front sight would rust and the screw between the cylinders and trigger would back out after a range outing.

I also didn't like how I'd get hit in the face with specs of... I don't know what... when shooting factory lead tip.

Gun show reloads shot well, but they were extremely dirty in comparison.

I don't think I'd ever get another 44 Magnum unless I got into pistol hunting... or camped often where there is a high bear population.

If you feel like doing a little research on the 44 handgun, John Taffin's website www.sixguns.com has a section called "book of the .44" that covers the 44 handgun from the blackpowder Colt Walker to today's offerings. You'll have to spend a little time in the website to find the section your interested in, there is a lot of chapters posted.

I also had Taurus that shaved rounds copper Jacket and lead . It was caused from it losing the timing couple warranty repairs ended up selling it to a friend super cheap to practice smithing on .
