    MP Shield LCI

Agggghhhh!!! So I just shot my new shield and that LCI is a PITA!!! I didn't think it would be an issue at first and I actually ran a black sharpie over the stupid "loaded when up" lettering. It didn't stand out as much but when actually shooting and trying to focus on the front sight that LCI sticks out like the hemroid on my anus. My wife, who doesn't shoot often, even noticed it and hates it. Not the hemroid, the LCI. So my question is how hard is it to swap this out? I see the Apex LCI is the way to go but what about installing? Can it just be tapped out? I'm still taking about the LCI not the hemroid. The hemroid convo is in the "off topic" thread. Any help is appreciated!

Super easy to install. All you do is tap the roll pin out and replace the stock with the no profile LCI. There is a spring under the LCI just leave it in when installing the new one. Whole process can be done in literally 1 minute. There is a video on APEX's website if your in need of further help.

Why not ground out the tip area that contacts the cartridge case so it doesn't come up when a round was chambered? Or, file off the lettering?

This is why I'll never purchase a gun with a lci.

          FYI.

CA requires a Chamber Load Indicator (CLI) [PC 16380], not a Loaded Chamber Indicator (LCI).

All Chamber Load Indicators are Loaded Chamber Indicators, but not all Loaded Chamber Indicators are Chamber Load Indicators.

Chamber Load Indicator (CLI) on the S&W M&P Shield...

Loaded Chamber Indicator (LCI) on the S&W M&P Shield...

          Penal Code 16380
As used in this part, "chamber load indicator" means a device that plainly indicates that a cartridge is in the firing chamber. A device satisfies this definition if it is readily visible, has incorporated or adjacent explanatory text or graphics, or both, and is designed and intended to indicate to a reasonably foreseeable adult user of the pistol, without requiring the user to refer to a user's manual or any other resource other than the pistol itself, whether a cartridge is in the firing chamber.

Has anyone noticed that the stock CA LCI tends to exert downward pressure on the cartridge rim, pushing the cartridge out of the grasp of the extractor when the slide moves back?

I find as a result, that when using snap caps to test function, I get quite a few FTE's when jerking the slide back. It would seem that the top mounted LCI is a horrible design.

I bought an APEX Lo Pro LCI, but haven't installed it yet. I think I should have bought the "No Pro".

              Here's a $20 fix!

Machined from steel, the Apex No Profile LCI-Block replaces the obtrusive pop-up loaded chamber indicator on state compliant SD and Shield handguns with a fixed piece in order to achieve a smooth and seamless appearance under any condition.

AS much as I hate them, and most of my guns don't have them

the LCI on the shield is pretty much easily ignored

This is what it looks like when loaded (snap caps in this case) I got the low lci, when unloaded it sinks below flush with the slide.

Super easy to change out as someone else mentioned. I got the Apex No Profile LCI. Very happy to get rid of the factory LCI.

I'm surprised they don't require it to say "Loaded when up" in English and Spanish after all it is California.

I almost didn't purchase a Shield due to this silly piece....but it wasn't like I had the Glock 42 or the XDS to choose from here in Ca....so I bought the shield.

I'm waiting to get it out of jail and shoot it to decide whether I want to do the Apex trigger mod in addition to the LCI.
