    Higher End 1911s

My Dad wants a nice traditional 1911 and wanted to know which companies to look at other than Baer. Roster isn't an issue.

He likes traditional, meaning no FS and no rail.

What other companies should I look at? I know Colt has its following, but is the quality there as compared to others?

So far, I can think of LB, EB, and DW. Any others?

I appreciate the help in advance.

Ah, forgot about Wilson and didn't know that Nighthawk made more traditional pistols. Great advice, thank you.

The Springfield Professional is the best balance of traditional and modern in high end 1911s imo. If I could only have one high end 1911 this one would be it.

The Colt Special Combat Government is also really nice if he likes blued over matte black. The trigger is not nas nice as the Pro and it's a Series 80.

Finally the Guncrafters No Name is an excellent choice for off-roster. It's so simple it doesn't even have rollmarks.

Edit: You could also pick up a Springfield Mil-Spec and have it sent out to be full custom built. That way your dad gets exactly the features he wants.

I love the basic GI look of the Guncrafter Industries No Name - in .45 ACP, of course
Super clean, not at all junked up. Aesthetically it's the best, in my not-at-all humble opinion, and functionally flawless in my experience. I got the commander in melonite and I have no complaints or issues.
However, having said that, I agree with that other guy - If I could only have ONE 1911 in the $2500-$3500 range, it would be the Professional. It is literally the standard.

              Thanks for the replies guys.

I had heard of the no name. I'll definitely forward it all on to him. Same with Springfield.

I think part of the appeal of the DW is the lack of roll marks all over the place like you see on others. I find them very aesthetically displeasing and like father, like son.

Oh, you are going to LOVE the No Name, then. Just don't associate Guncrafter's crappy website with their firearms... they should use their web designer for target practice

Agreed on the rollmarks. The nice thing about Wilson and Nighthawk is they are willing to build your gun the way you want it. So your dad can order a Talon or CQB minus the FS and rollmarks or any other features he wants.

Man it sucks being in CA.

Nighthawk is a custom shop and will do whatever you want. Can't go wrong with any of the big names.

Have him get a Springfield Custom Carry, built the way he wants. The Pro is nothing more than a CC, spec'd out by the FBI.

Springfield Professional would be my choice.

Bingo! A Valor is one fine pistol.

Since the roster is not a problem, how about a Ed Brown? Or STI?
