Check your recoil spring, make sure you don't have the 9mm one in when shooting 40.

I've run my gun dry, or gummy, on 1k rd runs BTW cleaning and haven't had a problem.

The gun was made in 2006 or 2007 I know for a fact the round count is above 1200. The spring is a light blue spring. I have 5 magazines for it all failed.

I tried some American eagle 40 cal bullets and they worked fine but for some reason pmc just doesn't work.

I thought factory ammo was pretty much the same?
Well, blue is the correct spring for the 229 40/357, so with that and defective mags ruled out I'm gonna say it just needs a cleaning (including a bronze brush through the chamber) and some grease. There is also slight chance that the ammo you had was underpowered or otherwise defective, PMC isn't exactly a powerhouse!

Not really. You get less quality control with the cheaper stuff.
Even the expensive stuff has a bad lot every now and again.
If your only having issues with the PMC, then that's the good news.
That means that your gun is fine and the PMC is either under-powered or a bad lot.

This, unfortunately with the sheer amount of guns SIG EXETER churns out there are an increasing number of simple brain fart QC issues that pops up(wrong springs, sights put on backwards). Tmost boneheaded mistake for their QC department are incorrect recoil spring tension because springs are color coordinated:

Red/Orange tip = 9mm full size or 40/45 carry length
          White tip = 40SW
          Green tip = 45acp

OP I'm having the exact same issue with a p238. I believe the feed ramp is the culprit

Huh, how would you say the ramp is the problem? What should I look for?
I don't drink or Smoke. I spend my money on gunpowder and gasoline.

^^2nd this^^. I have quite a few Sigs, never a feed problem. Actually never any problem.

My feed ramp is slightly rough, and is polished perpendicular from the travel of the round. Quite a few people with the 238's are polishing the feed ramp with 200 grit sandpaper to eliminate this issue. Just a thought.

Not your problem, but I just had a Sig in for warranty (bad extractor spring). Turn around from drop off at FedEx in Cali and back to me was 8 days.

Not saying a polish wouldn't help, but all my guns from many different brands also have perpendicular lines on the feedramp, without issue. Far more important is the feedramp geometry and the barrel underlug (which cams the barrel up) geometry.

Btw, if anyone is going to polish their feedramps, make absolutely sure you don't change the angle or round over any corners, unless you know for sure it's acceptable! I only use 2000+ grit equivalent stones, so only a minuscule amount of metal is removed and the angle remains the same. The peaks become hills, not flatlands, and that's perfectly acceptable.

I have two barrels for it. A factory original 40 s&w barrel, and a modified 9mm barrel I converted to fit it.

Oddly enough, the 40 barrel doesn't seem to be reliable but the 9mm one is.

I was shooting factory loaded pmc 180 grain ammo and the rounds just wouldn't feed properly from the mag into the chamber.

I was only using 40 cal mags.

The rounds would generally get half way in the chamber but wouldn't go all the way in. I couldn't just push on the back of the slide either, I had to rack the slide back to fix the problem.

                        Anyone else have similar experiences?
Can you get it to jam by hand feeding dummies? If yes, try removing the extractor. Does it jam by hand feeding even with the extractor removed?

Does it happen with other types of ammo? Maybe it's the ammo. Can you get it to jam by hand feeding dummies? If yes, try removing the extractor. Does it jam by hand feeding even with the extractor removed?

He's not having problems with the caliber change. His original barrel in .40 is the one with issues. AFAIK, he's using the .40 cal recoil spring with 9mm, and it's doing fine. But the .40 cal spring and .40 cal barrel, oem is jamming.

Only happens with PMC, Cant really remove the extractor on this gun. Thats a big nono, the extractor pin is VERY hard to remove.

nope, not all factory ammo is the same, and not all P229s are the same either. this is why you run a few hundred rounds of specific ammo you've chosen for defensive application to ensure compatibility with your pistol before relying on that ammo for defensive use. i suggest that you mark each magazine individually during this compatibility test. then, if any malfunctions occur and prove to be specific to one magazine, you'll know it and you'll know which magazine is the culprit.

it may or may not be the case, but it seems to me that with the success you've had with the American Eagle, your problem is most likely the PMC ammo you're using. either you've got a bad lot of PMC or your P229 simply doesn't like the PMC you're running through it. i suggest that you run some different ammo through and put the results into the equation.
