Glock 36 fix

I've had a 36 with Pierce +1 extensions for a few years now. Reliability has not been good but I never gave up.
I finally came across another post where I discovered the +10% magazine springs from Wolff.
My FFL who is a Glock guy also did some throat polishing for me as well.
I'm confident the mag springs made the difference...it's been 100% since.
I've read several past posts that were not kind to the older 36 models, hopefully this will help someone out.

I also have a G36 I put the +1 extensions on 2 of my magazines. Replaced the springs with oem glock springs never had no malfunctions.

Glad you got it worked out. Does the addition of the +1 extension cause issues or is this a glock 36 issue?

I've had issues with handguns and long guns in the past. All of those issues went away after mag/tube spring and/or recoil spring replacements and/or different ammo.

Does the +1 extension come with a different spring? Bobby626 says he replaced his springs with OEM glock springs, but isn't that what comes in an OEM glock magazine anyways? So I'm not understanding how that fixed the problem...

Anyways, not really related to the OP's issue, but this reminds me of a story. A while back, while my new G36 was in jail, I read a thing about a guy who had documented his struggle with his G36 having relentless stovepiping issues. Was never able to fire more than a mag or two without getting a stovepipe. I don't remember if he was using mag extensions or not, but I remember his story scared the crap out of me. Then I took my new G36 to the range, fired 100 rounds, had 2 stovepipes. Certainly better than that other guy, but still unacceptable. Since that first day at the range though, I've never had another stovepipe. To this day, I have no idea if it was an ammo problem, a new-gun-wasn't-broken-in-yet problem, a forgot-to-clean-the-factory-goop-off problem, or a limp-wristing problem. Could've easily been any one of those, I was a relatively new shooter at the time.

But back on topic, I have never personally tried the +1 extensions. The whole point of the G36 (for me) is that it's small... If I don't feel comfortable going somewhere in particular with "only" 6+6+1 rounds on me, then I just choose a different weapon for that day. Honestly, 99% of the time I carry my G29 instead, because the 10rd magazines make me feel a lot better. I don't think upgrading my G36 mags to 7rds would change how often I carry it.

Of course, everyone's stories are different, so I'm not criticizing the G36 nor the extensions, I'm sure both can be ideal for people with different circumstances than mine.

When I purchased my 36, the 30 wasn't available yet.
I've got pretty large hands so the extension was needed...doesn't hamper concealed carry in any way for me.
The older 36's were known for having issues with or without the Pierce extensions.

With a flush magazine, I might actually carry my G36 more often, even with the neutered capacity.

The only problem I have had with a g36 was directly related to the older style magazine followers. The old followers didn't have the notch cut out of them and pushed the slide stop up higher than it should be. The newer style magazine followers have a relief notch in them. I did extensive tests with two g36's that I had. The newer one shot flawlessly from day one, several thousand rounds through it. I bought a used older g36 and it had malfunctions. I compared every part between the two and the only difference was the magazine followers. When I used the newer g36 magazines in the older g36 it shot flawless.

The bad reliability reputation is directly related to older style magazine followers. New g36's should function great. Mine did.

I use the +0 Pierce base plates on my G36 magazines. Never had an issue with them (but they're newer magazines). I avoided the +1 due to some reliability issues I had read about. I'm comfortable with a 6+6+1 (or even 6+6+6+1) load out, if I need more rounds than that the fecal matter has really hit the fan.

I've always had the mentality that my G36 was an "extract yourself from the situation" type of weapon rather than a "finish the fight" type gun. I know other people may feel differently, but that's my mindset when I carry.

When I put +2 Pierce ext on my legal g20 hi caps I noticed the slide stop didn't hold it open on an empty mag. Wolff had +5% springs available at the time and it solved the problem

The more I think about it, the more I want to sell my G36... I just have such a hard time selling guns, especially since the G36 popped my pistol cherry. There's nothing wrong with it, it just... doesn't fill a need anymore.

No kiddin', never noticed! I have one out of four new style...aargh. Now off to find some new followers.
