Ya, the XD(m) can not be purchased here in CA through an FFL nor can it be purchased on-line and sent here, however, it can be sold to LEO and it can be PPT'd to a CA resident from someone that brings it here from out of state and has a valid CA ID/DL.
    Or it can be SSE'd

and no, 10 round mags still dont exist for the 9mm/40 cal

Single shot is such a pain in the a@@ when dealing with out of state vendors who arent familier with our laws. I see youre in Texas. You must be one of the good ones who are educated in our laws. Most out of state vendors arent.

Some of the SSE shops, like Valkyrie, tend to keep XDm's in stock...

Or, Table Rock Arms can ship to the FFL of your choice as long as they understand what's going on and they're down with the program: http://www.tablerockarms.com/index.p...d=61&Itemid=64

I recently moved here, and am seriously considering getting my FFL just to get off roster / CA compliant rifles into CA.

I dont know if it would be cost effective for a buyer since I wouldnt be getting guns as cheap as a larger retailer/FFL, but doing gunbroker/other retailer middle man stuff may help to.

so...it is my understanding that the high capacity magazines can be 10 round blocked. This is important because (my understanding) at the safe gun handling test it must be with the gun to be purchased/transfered and an FFL (in CA) would have to require a 10round magazine for this demonstration.

Is this correct? Or can a safe handgun demo be done with any old handgun? I ask this as i will have to come up with an xdm 10round magazine for demonstration.

I am in the intra-family transfer category....

To get the handgun safety certificate, I believe you can do it with any handgun. In order to take delivery of a new gun, the FFL typically has you demonstrate that you know the functions and buttons/levers and whatnot. I do not believe that you *need* a working magazine for this.

^^^ not positive on that. The last time I bought a handgun though I do not remember having to pull a mag out of the plastic when I was demonstrating that I knew how the gun worked. When I did the safety thing, we used the gun I was buying, but I'm not sure if you have to use one you own or if you can borrow one or what...

...and the magazine has to be *permanently* blocked...

part of the test is loading a snap cap into a mag, then into the gun : P

Order a few rebuild kits and block them to hold only 10rds and epoxy the base, so they are permanent. My hkp30 .40 cal mags are $60 each and rebuild kits are $30, so i plugged and glued.

The PC says that the handgun safety demo has to be done with THE firearm being purchased. So, you would need to have a functioning magazine if it was being transfered as a semi-auto pistol. The HSD affidavit says that you can use a different pistol of the same make/model, but that doesn't mean that you can do the HSD on a Glock when you are transfering an XDm.

assuming that you meant Handgun Safety DEMO instead of certificate, because there are no actual handguns involved when you get your HSC. But when you do the HSD, the PC says that you have to use THAT handgun that you are transfering, you just can't use Any handgun.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Oh! Jack, when you said semi-auto that brought it back for me. I had a friend get an XDm and it was transferred to him even though he hadn't made a functioning 10-round mag. It was in single shot exempt form!... he could do the demonstration and a magazine wasn't required to load it.
