Considering that the .380 model is the most common gun used in homicides in this country, I'd say that their motto should be "As seen on COPS." Save your money.

I reccomended a Glock and told him he could get one Out-the-door for 600 bucks or so, but that was way out of his range.. He wanted something cheap that would send lead firing accurately enough at 3-5yds.. From what I've read on gun boards, Hi-points work for that purpose. I told him to look for one of those at some local shops.

I dunno.. I wonder if I should call him back and offer to sell him my P6 for 200 bucks or so. He's a good guy I've known forever. Dont want him to be relying on a substandard weapon.
I think your friend will be just fine with a Hi-Point. Plus Hi-Point have a no quibble life-time warranty, so they will ALWAYS fix it for free, if anything ever goes wrong with it. Whereas, although the Sig P6 is a fine weapon, it is a 20 year old pistol with absolutely no warranty. When you pick up a Hi-Point it quickly becomes apparent that it has a different feel to other pistols due to it's top-heavy slide. The way it feels on recoil is also different, but something a new shooter can get used to very quickly.

I have the C9 and the 995 carbine, and both are incredibly reliable and accurate. Agreed, they are not made from the finest materials available, but this has no bearing on their function or reliability. They shoot well and go bang every time I press pull the trigger, which is the important thing about any gun.

I bought my C9 used for $100 18 months ago. I have yet to clean it and have no idea whether the previous owner ever cleaned it or what the round count is. Since I've had it, not a single hiccup, plus it eats up HPs and +P without a problem. I think the success of the Hi-Point design is it's simplicity, which may be the factor which contributes towards it's reliability.

Life can make you do many things, even kiss a man with a runny nose.

That figures, I couldn't find one for sale, even though it's on the roster

You want a Hi-Point .380? Are you sure it's on the roster? I've got one in the back of the safe--if you really want one PM me.

Yep, I want one, and it's on the roster. I'd get the rest of them, too, if they were on the roster. Do you ever come to L.A. area? For transferring it through an FFL would make it more costly than it's worth

                        Why not?

                        1. I have no problem with Hi-points, and I like the two I own.

                        2. They are cheap, so transfer fees add up a large percentage to their overall price.

I occasionally make it to OC / LA but normally I head up North. You are right about the cost of a CA transfer making the pistol too expensive. If I head down that way in the next couple of months and still have it, I'll PM you and see if you still want one. Maybe we can come up with something that will work.

'Cause what you're implying is that you want to avoid an FFL transfer when you purchase the gun.

Never shot a highpoint but I do remember my first time seeing one at my local dealer.....

                                Me: WTF is that?!?!
                                Clerk: a Hi-point
                                Me: Can I see it?
                                Clerk: No
                                Me: why not?
Clerk: I just washed my hands. Here check out this XD9 (new at the time)
                                :hands me XD9:

I've known this clerk for years. He has sold me just about every gun I own and we talk shop all the time and I consider him a good friend.

If you like Hi-points, more power to ya. I can't get over the HUGE slide. You could cover a loaf of bread with that slide.
