40 year old Smith & Wesson 19-2 Range Report

So, I took my new to me 40 year old Smith & Wesson model 19-2 out to the range yesterday. I kept the combat stocks on it for this trip and man does it feel good in the hand. Very well balanced and not too heavy; just what I wanted to get my wife into shooting revolvers.

This gun hasn't been shot; you can still feel a little grit in the double action pull. Don't worry my dad was a TV repairman and has an ultimate set of tools; I can fix it. (People my age will get that, younger ones not so much) The double action pull was pretty nice for a stock not been fired much gun. I don't have a gauge but I would put the DA pull around 11-12lbs and the SA pull was about 5lbs. Both of these will be lighter once I can find the time to get the side plate off and do a little cleaning up.

Now for some targets. I like to use 7 yards as a get to know you distance so all shots were at that distance.


The first 6 in SA

These 12 head shots were in DA




The first 50 rounds for the day. All body shots were SA and all head shots were DA.




Over all I couldn't be happier with it. This one will probably see a lot of range time.

One thing to remember about the model 19's that they are a light gun and shooting too many 357's will damage the gun. I have the 19-3 which I bought about 15 years ago for around $250.00 A nice shooter for sure.

I don't think you'll live that long to damage it.Congrads on a fine K frame...I've been looking for a nice 4" M-19 for some time

And the wife's 66, early 70's that she demanded I give her when she was my girlfriend 31 years ago. Gotta love a smith.

My first issue gun was a 4" model 19, and this was 12/9/98! The beauty of rural life!

if you haven't already, consider replacing your Model 19. if you replace it, you'll feel better for it.
