Are you sure it's a Gen1? They only made ~20 or so and most are in museums/collections. Maybe Gen2???

I can't fit all my fingers on the G26 so I'd go with the G19 if you are limited to one or the other.

You can do what I did

Have both Glock 26 + 19 ( Would never get rid of either one )

For the Finger problem
Take a Glock 19 Mag .

Put on a exterior mag spacer ( http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/2-AGGL19-23 )
Does Not change the amount of rounds in Mag !

Then Put on a Pearce grip extension . Your Pinky will rest on it

Then with Both those of them will have No Problem with a Big Hand on the Glock 26

I bought a gen 4 G26 last year and had nothing but problems with it. By the time I figured out what the problem was it was too late to ship it back to Glock for a replacement because I am not a privileged class and it could not be transferred to be because SSE 1.0 is no longer allowed.

The problem, about every couple of rounds it would fail to completely return to battery (it was short by no more than a mm or two) causing the next round to experience a light primer strike. I had taken it to 4 different Glock armorers. and all the internals were changed out 3 times. The 4th thought the polymer frame was tweaked slightly causing extra friction with the slide. He was able to straighten it out a bit but not enough. Hence the offer of Glock to replace it, but only if I were not a CA resident because of the roster issue.


The fix was buying a highly polished trigger bar from OC Custom triggers (just a stock Glock trigger that has been highly polished with no other modifications) an 18 pound stainless steel recoil spring to replace the stock 16 lb plastic spring. This was to reduce as much friction as possible and give extra power to overcome the friction. We also added a reduced weight safety plunger spring. For a while I did have a titanium safety plunger spring, but I noticed it was showing uneven and excessive wear so I put the original back in and it still functions flawlessly. I will put the original safety plunger spring back in and test in on my next range trip.

Since I have fixed it I have shot 2000 rounds out of it with no problems and it is as accurate as I am able to shoot.

Now, before SSE 1.0 expired I also purchased the gen 4 models of the G17, G29, and G30. I am a lefty.

The G17 runs flawlessly. The G29 and G30 has the same problems as the g26. I have done extensive searches on the net and found that this has been a problem with many gen 4 Glocks. Many report light primer strikes without realizing the slide is not returning to battery. Glock has been replacing the return spring assemblies for people who call them. Others have put in stainless steel or tungsten springs and have eliminated the problem.

It has to do with the trigger bar.

On the lower end of the trigger bar, just above where the paper clip is sitting in my picture, is the piece that is shiny on both of my guns that are malfunctioning but are dirty on my G17, just as in the Glocktalk thread. Excuse the scratch marks above, I put those there while setting up for the camera.

That part I believe is rubbing on the portion of the frame that the top part of the paper clip is pointing to. I see the same rub marks in both of my malfunctioning guns, but not in my G17.

Then the bump or knob on the trigger bar is rubbing along the rounded part of the slide next to the safety plunger. Both of my malfunctioning guns show rub marks in the powder residue left behind that is not on my G17. I had not cleaned them yet because it was easier to see the rub marks.

Both my G29 and G30, with the trigger depressed, the slide can be pushed out of battery by several millimeters. My G17 cannot.

If I were not a lefty I would stick with the gen 3 Glocks. My son has a gen 3 G19 and his do not experience any of these problems.

My fixed G26, the slide cannot by pushed out of battery when the trigger is depressed.

The roster doesn't apply when you are sending a gun off for gunsmithing work, although a company's interpretation of the roster laws may be different that what is actually written. Have you called Glock to see what they say about it?

I carry a G19 all the time off duty. I wear shorts and a T shirt in the summer . No issues.

Bought a 26 and 43 to carry in the pocket.

i meant in terms of style.

of course we, as concealed carriers, have to wear clothes slightly larger for this purpose.

I usually wear fitted clothes like that.... but i carry single stack 380 firearm and 3 o'clock position so my right hand usually covers the gun even more.

I cant conceal g19 and g26 without wearing baggy t shirts and i hate wearing baggy clothes.

When you're my age and you wear tight fitting clothes like that.....well.....it just ain't right.

If you're wearing tight clothes like shown in the second photo, it doesn't matter if you're carrying a 26 or a 19, it's going to print.

I don't have either, but have shot both quite a bit. Both are good carry guns. I think for all around versatility the 19 is tough to beat. Good ccw piece and good for USPSA, IDPA and GSSF shooting. I have a 30s I use for CCW (winter) so I don't think I see a G19 in the future. The 30S and the 19 are about the same size and thus I would go for the bigger .45 acp.

The 26 might be in the future for me because I do shoot GSSF and its an easier gun to shoot than the 30S for sub-compact division. We'll see down the road. I'm in no hurry at all.

I'm a retired LEO now so for me "easier carry" is better than "easier shooting." My "mindset" has changed quite a bit since retiring. Between the 19 and 26 I would go for the 26. Between the 26 and 43 I would go for the 43.

G19. It's more versatile. G26 is a great concealment gun, but you sacrifice sight radius.

Which is why people are willing to pay $1200 for G43s

I, too, wear in between. And the 26 does a better job at being hidden than the 19

Seems like everyone has done a great job covering the basics here. I will add only two points... First, I found the G26 to be very controllable even with the short grip. At DEFENSIVE DISTANCES, I was able to quickly acquire the front site and get decent groups with quick shots. If I slowed down I was able to shoot extremely accurately. Basically, I wouldn't worry about being able to control your shots with the shorter barrel/grip.

Also, I am a proponent of minimum ten rounds in a ccw mag. Do as you like, but I'd like to have as many as legally possible with another mag waiting to join the action. I don't bring this up for the G19 vs G26 comparison; more for the G26 vs G43 comparison. Have the extra rounds in the grip!

+1 The baby glocks are where I 'especially' notice the Gen4's smaller grip size + improved texture. The 1mm size difference allows
me to get just 'a bit' more grip w/ 3 fingers to make a noticeable difference / improvement. Yeah, it's fun to slap on the included beavertail backstraps,
but I don't normally run them. After comparing them side-by-side, I definitely like the smaller grip of the Gen4, especially on the G26.
