I'll have to take them to the range before I trust them again for carry, though.

Guess I also need to find a place to buy -3 mag blocks so that when I return from international waters I won't make any liberal heads explode.

As cheap a glock 26 mags are, I would try a new mag and +0 grip extension before I gave up on this combo.

I have (and carry) numerous G26 mags (and G30 mags) configured this way and can't help but believe that that something is worn or out of spec...

I don't understand buying a small gun and making it bigger instead of becoming proficient with it. If you can't shoot well with 3 fingers, you're so huge that you NEED a bigger frame so buy one.
With 9mm Glocks in California, the next larger model is the G19. The 10-round G19 mags are a gamble as to their reliability with any specific Glock. The G26 mags are generally reliable.

It's all personal preference regarding extensions on the G26 or not. Spending ~$10 for an extension to personalize one's firearm is a small thing.
