After lusting over one for years I finally placed an order for one. I hate the OD frame so the gun will be recoated, flush cut reverse crown, magwell, & fluted chamber. What other work should I have done on it?

Congrats! I too hate the green frame which has held me back. Ambi thumb safety if you're a lefty, otherwise there's really not much else you can do with it.

The cork sniffers will probably advise you to replace all of the MIM parts in the CA version with Bulletproof parts.

Just my opinion but the flush cut reverse crown is a fad that will die out in a few years.

I am a huge fan of the "carry cut" that Ed Brown does as an option on his slides. Very classy.



The only other thing is to have it blued like a standard Les Baer.

That's a shame that the California models can't be sold like the rest of the CQB line, they have been 100% bullet proof parts for a few years now.

I really have no problem with MIM in a less expensive gun. But when your paying $2500 to $3000 for a gun, it should not have any.

You'll love it. Congrats! I did the same thing a few years ago and sent it back to them to have them Hard Chrome it...back when they were still doing HC. This was before I knew about SSE. I digress.

I'd do fiber optic from and ultimate speed site rear

Flush cut and chamfer the slide stop

Bullet proof whatever isn't bullet proof'd on the CA model...if memory serves there's only one or two parts...think it's the slide stop but can't remember for sure and/or if there's anything else

Covert the firing pin over to the regular one

Guess you can't omit the FCS on a finished slide but I'd blank it out as much as i could because I don't usually care for roll marks

Flat wire recoil spring is a nice option

Consider if you want a spare extractor or any other replacement parts so they can fit it to the gun now and/or match paint

I believe the grip safety and thumb safety are cast parts . No mim even on Ca. Models. I have one that I'm going to send in after the Western States Single Stack match in November. I've had it for about 7 years. Going to get a 1 piece mag well, fiber optic front sight and refinish. I'm think in of possibly going with all grey. I have a Springfield that Wilson completely rebuilt that's black. Mark

Interesting, I had the same thought about the Carry Cuts. Pretty popular now on Ed Brown/Wilsons/Nighthawks, but will probably fall out of favor, kind of like how everyone hates on front cocking serrations now. I do like the carry cuts myself though.

OP,

I have 4 WC 1911's, 2 CQBs are in the collection. As others have said the work you have listed is a good start. I have thousands of rounds through my WC 1911's and have yet to have a failure of any kind. Don't worry about cast parts as they can always be swapped out IF they ever fail and WC will do that for free.

The sky is the limit for anything you want done on your new WC 1911. I would shoot the heck out of it first then send it in for the the work you want done. Sometimes the brass kisses will ding up the armor-tuff finish. This would be the time to get it refinished entirely. Another option and of which is purely cosmetic is to have the slide stop cut recessed.

The only other work I would suggest is having a spare extractor fit and tuned as they will wear out. This is also the time to swap out the sights if you want to. Many people like the gold bead front sight or the FO front. I have tritium on all of mine. Lastly would be an ambi safety if you are a lefty.

Thanks for the input guys! Actually I called them to have one made & they had one that was just finished. The person who ordered it cancelled so I called a Wilson distributor who picked it up for me & sold it to me for cheaper than what they were asking.
