    Gunbroker.Com

Does anyone know (or have experience) with Gunbroker.

I would like to know the process, and (if possible) FFL dealer in the bay area (reasonable in pricing) who can help with the transaction.

    Thanks in Advance!!!!

I've used it a couple of times with no hassles. Make sure whatever you are interested in is on the roster. The process is quite simple. Make your payment and provide FFL info, they ship it to the FFL, they notify you it has arrived, DROS and wait 10 days. You will be paying shipping, FFL and tax, it adds up. Once again, be sure it's on the roster.

I've bought a few guns on gunbroker, you can get some smokin deals. I always use Kevin Smith in Martinez as the FFL. He's on here...

I bought a barley used Sig P229R for 650$ (and $30 shipping $45 DROS) with 3 mags plus 2, double mag holders. Out the door, I got a near new P229R for $725 which if I bought new + the mags and pouches here would run me an easy $1250.

There's no tax if its private party to private party where the real savings are at. It has to be a killer deal or else its best to wait until something shows up local private party.

There was a ton of hoops to jump through since it was a private party seller/buyer(me). My seller wanted a cashiers check a signed bill of sale/hold harmless agreement and my FFL's info. All of which is fine, but three things you don't have to do if you go to the LGS on top of all the extra paper work you do!

I've used it several times on some 800+ dollar guns and have never had an issue. There is perhaps a bit of a leap of faith involved, sending someone a money order for a bunch of money, but make sure they have some decent feedback and it should be fine. More, it's just the annoyance of dealing with out of state sellers who hate to deal with CA.

So help me with the math:

Gun price + Shipping (would be known)

            CA tax ?
            DROS ?
            FFL fee ?
            Anything else?

How much would that be. I'm trying to total the (OTD) cost involved.

I have purchased numerous handguns and rifles off gunbroker. Pay attention to who you are doing business with and you will be fine. As mentioned above.. make sure they will ship to CA BEFORE you bid.

^^^ this. there is a feedback section posted on the auction page of any item up for sale on Gunbroker. you are able to view all the feedback entries made by past buyers regarding their transactions with the seller and it would benefit you to read those entries before bidding/purchasing.

I have also used GB many times with no issues.

Good communication with the seller is the key. Sometimes I message them before I bid just to make sure they have no issue shipping here. Make sure what you are purchasing is legal here, and that the seller also understands that it is.

Some vendors are not FFLs and may want to ship to your FFL directly. In that case, make sure your FFL will except the shipment from a non-FFL.

Make sure and read all of their conditions in the ad carefully ahead of time, and ask first if you aren't sure about something.

                        Good luck OP.

How much would that be. I'm trying to total the (OTD) cost involved.
The biggest cost you will need to worry about is the dealers fee. Some LGS don't like doing OOS transfers so they charge $100 or more for the service. Look around for a dealer that will do it for as little as possible. GB has a FFL finder that will show you dealers in your area.

You need to do the math. If you find it online for $500 plus $35 Shipping plus $50 transfer fee plus tax on $535 (Cost of gun and shipping. I know there isn't supposed to be tax on shipping) and $25 DROS fee it will cost you $658.15 OTD for a gun you bought sight unseen.

If that same gun is $579 at your LGS your OTD price is $656.11. That's $2 less than the gun you paid $500 for and you probably got to inspect the gun before you bought it.

As for the roster you do need to keep it in mind. If the gun is a semi auto it pretty much needs to be on the roster. If the gun is a revolver you can get most any one so long as your LGS will do a Single Action Exemption on a revolver that holds 5 or more rounds with a 3" barrel and an over all length of 7.5". Now keep in mind that this service will cost you more money but it does allow you to get more things.

You can also look for guns that are over 50 years old or specifically named as a C&R. ALL C&R handguns are exempt from the roster regardless of how old they are.

                          Good luck shopping.
                          Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

I like GB. Have only made 5 or 6 purchases off there. I did have a few problems though. One gun wasn’t complete (well it fired but was kinda half converted to another style). It was a great deal and I would still have bought it again in a heartbeat. The other bad one was a FAL receiver that was supposed to be new, it showed up in terrible condition. Got my money refunded with ought much hassle. I would use GB again but ask lots of questions if the item is used. My new complete gun purchases went well on there though.

It's great for finding used guns on the cheap (sometimes) and finding those hard-to-find new guns that your dealer can't get from a distributor because the distribution pipeline is empty. If you want to buy a new gun that is readily available, you're better off just getting it from your LGS, as you'd save on the shipping and out-of-state transfer fees.
