I have seen Browning Hi-Power pistols before and know a little about their history, but I have never handled or shot one. I think the pistol is a nice design and I wouldn't mind owning one, but I never really paid much attention to them.
Today I had an acquaintance approach me and asked if I was interested in buying a pistol from him. Of coarse I gave him my standard answer of "It depends, What is it? What condition is it in? How much do you want for it? and are you the legal owner and willing to do a legal transfer through a dealer?"
He said it is great condition. It has somewhere between 500-1000 rounds through it. It was his dads and it was transferred to him many years ago. His dad bought it sometime in the late 80's or early 90's.
He shows me a picture and it looks like it has a stainless frame and black slide. From what I can determine at this point it appears to be a MKIII Practical in 9mm.
What do you guys think about this pistol? Is it a "good" gun? Are there any things I need to look out for? I prefer the the classic blued / walnut look of the original Hi-Power pistol, but I can live with this color combo. He said it is an FN gun but I have read that some of these were made in Portugal. Is there a preference between a Belgium gun and a Portuguese gun? Is a MK III an improvement over the earlier versions?
and finally, What would you pay for it assuming it is in real nice condition? He said it is not scratched up or damaged at all.
This is a picture stolen from the net, not the actual gun.
