Ruger LC380 CA. Questionable Beginings

Hey so,

the girlfriend scored a pretty good price for her LC380CA. She was attracted to its looks and appreciated how easy it was to rack the slide. She is also looking forward to the 9mm kit they say might show up before the end of the year. The LazerMax was a nice bonus ta'boot!

Despite all this, there are some disappointments.

First, there was a light scratch across the LC380CA logo. No real biggie, this will be a tool for CCW.

2nd, the magazine does not slide out terribly easy. Not even a good shake will dislodge it. At least for now...

Lastly, after cleaning her off, we hit the range where we experiences several failures to eject and one failure to lock to the rear ( during 100 rds). This was disappointing. We were using Fiocchi ammo. I hear its respectable but, could this have been the problem?

What are your thoughts, experiences?

Is this out of the ordinary? Do the LCs require a break in period?

Or, is Ruger just blowing it?

Did she get it used?
Maybe try a few more types of ammo of its still an issue a call to ruger and they should take care of her

Yeah, thought of that but it happened to both of us....

Oh yeah, and the sights seemed a bit off. High and to the right for both of us.

I would remove the mag disconnect. A side benefit is it may clear up the mag drop issue.

I would also keep shooting it and see if your next 100 rounds give you any trouble. And be sure no limp wristing.

If the slide still does not lock to the rear, take the slide off and inspect the contact between the follower shelf and the slide lock lever. Some mags have looser tolerances that allow them to shift in the mag well and the follower shelf will slip past the slide lock after the last round. You can see pics here:

If you keep having that problem Ruger should send you a new mag. Ask for an Italy mag if they make them for the 380.

As for the sights, shoot it off sandbags with very slow and careful trigger pulls before you judge the sights or try to adjust them. A long DAO stroke can easily throw the shot if you are just standing and shooting.

My wife has the same gun and has had no issues. Ruger is real good about fixing their guns. My SR40c had some issues and they fixed it. Turn around time was less than 2 weeks. I had sent them an email and they called me on the phone to talk to me. They emailed the return paperwork and shipping label. Easy and no hassles. Too bad most of their guns are now off roster.

BTW, I personally do not like the trigger pull. Too long for me.

Haven't given up yet. We'll throw more lead down range before making any drastic conclusions.

Didn't consider the sandbag idea. That would be a far better gauge.

Will tell the girl to speak to Ruger about the mag. That does seem like a whole lot of poop to me. Makes sense that it could be the mag rather than the mag well.

We view the trigger pull as a safety feature suited for CCW.

It is undoubtedly long though. No question about it. Not a target pistol.

It's a mission specific firearm. Fit most all the prerequisites she was looking for.

The pull isnt the problem, its the reset.

tried an LC9, and I can see a scenario where under stress, the length of reset could result in a click instead of a bang
