    Beretta 87 Target

One of the competitive games I play in is Steel Challenge. Currently shoot two divisions monthly, centerfire iron and centerfire optic.

Thinking of mixing it up a little bit and competing on occasion in rimfire optic. Generally the field is a herd of Rugers and Buckmarks. I like to be a 'li bit different.

So, I've been looking at the Beretta 87 Target. Yes, on roster. So, I am here seeking the sage advice of my fellow Calgunners. Any of you fellows have one?
Is it reliable? Easy to service? How does it perform? Does it have a picky appetite, such as Mini Mag only?

I've already located ones at different vendors and yes I know it's pricey but no more so than an off roster Ruger Mark II or III these days.

Your advice and opinions will be highly valued .

    Thanks in advance.

I have an 87 Target and love it. Mine is not picky with ammo and it's very accurate. The most common complaint you'll hear is about the trigger which is not as good as S&W 41 (have that one too.)

With Leupold 4x scope I can shoot quarter sized groups of 20-30 rounds off of rest at 15 yards (45 feet) - it feels like cheating (which it is if you use both a scope and a rest.)

You won't regret getting it. It has the rail on the top so you can put any red dot or scope. Beretta also makes very nice wooden grips.

Just Drossed one last week, trigger is kind of unusual but I have already ordered a trigger from an 89 model, it is supposed to fit and it has an over-travel adjustment.
If not a felt pad is supposed to help if you keep the original trigger.
Not many accessories are out there other than wood grips and front sights,
        it should be fun.
        Good luck and enjoy!

I have one I bought YEARS ago. Easily eats any .22 ammo I've fed it, I can't count how many hundreds of thousands of rounds have been put through the gun. The only issue I have is that the magazines for them are a bit expensive, otherwise the best .22 pistol I have, and the only one I would not sell.
The inconvenience of poor quality lingers long after the thrill of a good bargain.

I have one. The grip is way too small for my average sized hands. Great for my wife and kids tho. Accuracy is excellent. On par with my SW 41. punching less than 1" groups at 25 yards easily with standard ammo.

However, mine has ignition problems. I changed out the firing pin and it's better now but still 2 or 3 rounds out of 10 won't go off on the first strike.

That's ok, actually. I have the hands of a little girl. I'm encouraged that it is not too picky about ammo.

It don't think I have ever seen one but it looks sweet. I think you should definitely buy one so I can try it out

I ordered it, brother. You are free to play with it anytime. Thanks all for your input.

I bought one several years ago...it led to another 87 (non-T), and then a 92FS practice kit. On the hunt for an older Beretta Jag in .22.

No 87 but I do have an 89 I've had many many years. They're quite accurate, somewhat uncommon though. Mine will run standard velocity ammo all day, everyday. I don't generally shoot the HV stuff through it, its just not needed.
The only thing is finding mags...all I'm gonna say is good luck.

Thanks. I already found the mags and ordered a bunch. Not a bad price either, almost 10 bucks less per if I placed on backorder with Midway and they shipped same day. I'm pretty good at finding stuff, lot better than I am at actually shooting.

I wonder if 87 mags will work in an 89. I can't find 89 mags anywhere!

I got an additional three myself and some wood grips, got charged tax, they must be shipping them from somewhere in California.
