    Springfield XDS

    Hey guys,

I am getting my first handgun and was trying to legally obtain a springfield xds 9mm 3.3 and was wondering how I would go about doing that. I hear you could do a family transfer or buy one off a cop or something along those lines. I was just hoping for a straight answer.

    Thanks all,
    Spencer

Because the handgun is not on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale, it can be acquired by one of these methods:
    1. Buy it from a CA resident that already owns it.
    2. Out-of-state intra-familial gift.*
    3. Become a CA LEO and buy it from a CA FFL dealer.

*In order to be an out-of-state intra-familial gift, all of the following needs to happen:
    1. Family member needs to be a parent, grandparent, child, or grandchild.
    2. Your parent/grandparent needs to be a non-resident of CA.
    3. Using their own money, your parent/grandparent needs to acquire the handgun in their State of residence and then deliver it to a CA FFL dealer, who will then transfer (4473/DROS/10 day wait) it to you.
    4. You can not provide them with any money for the handgun or compensate them for it.

Look in the Marketplace Forum for sales and place a post in the Want To Buy forum.

Off roster guns can be bought by going through a PPT aka Private Party Transfer at a local gun store or FFL.

I assume you are in CA.

2&3 the person can also be the child of the person receiving the handgun.

Unless you have a grandparent, parent, child or grandchild living out of state who will buy one for you as a gift with no compensation from you...

Find one already legally here in CA and do a face-to-face private party transfer at a gun shop.

It's a great pistol. Expect to pay between $600 - $800 depending on condition and accessories.

Or you could just go to your local gun store and purchase a CA model M&P Shield.

If you are in any county like LA that restricts shorter barrel PPT's then you'd have to do the transfer outside city of LA. Why? because people are stupid. BTW its an awesome firearm. there have been a few floating around here on the marketplace. Got mine about 3 months ago

theres a handful of them in the marketplace for sale right now throughout California. I just bought a bitone 3.3 in .45 with 500 factory rounds, 4 mags and a holster for 800 a couple months ago.

Many people shopping for their first handgun make the mistake of thinking smaller is better. Skip the XDS and get a full-size XD or another full-size gun. Unless you want a gun strictly for CCW.

Thanks all. I did have a first gun and it's the ruger sr40 and am going to want to conceal it (should've specified a little more) but I appreciate the replies. Hypothetically, how about if my dad was a cop could be buy it and gift it to me? Could that work

                              Try a Shield first.
California's politicians and unionized government employees are a crime gang that makes the Mexican drug cartels look like a Girl Scout Troop in comparison.
