The manual on the GI 45 1911 from springfield says don't try a .22lr conversion for there pistol. Something about different firing pin lengths and such IIRC. Does anyone have any experience with any conversion kit in this gun? Did it go hay wire and unload full auto? Not shoot at all? Jam o matic? Anyone know of a successfull conversion kit for this pistol? I would love to practice with this pistol without paying an load of cash for ammo

I'm not sure what the firing pin would have to do with it since a .22 conversion kit cosists of a whole new top end? -
Wow, okay. Just re-read the manual and it says some conversion kits have a firing pin that is too long and could allow the hammer to hit the pin even when the safety is engaged. It could be dangerous. I may have messed up small details but thats about what it said. Sounds to me like they are trying to cover there asses by saying, if you use a conversion and hurt yourself, its not our faultsigpic
