My king cobra came in a bag. Don't remember if it was greasy. My Python was inherited. And I didn't sell it. Only reason to sell things is you need the money. Or you get tired of something or run out of storage space.

Colt Python NIB - Clean or No?

When I get ready to sell it I'll be sure and take good pictures as I have with the dozens of others I've sold.
It really helps.
But the question posed is: "clean it" or "leave it as is".
I can clean it and make it sparkle with a coat of Renaissance Wax, but still having the factory protectant might enhance its resale value to a serious collector.Shooting more, typing lessComment

someone, perhaps far after my lifetime will be really glad I collected only new hammersRandom Thought--->
If you do not plan on pounding nails, why buy a hammer?
I could go on and on with the analogies. It never ceases to amaze me why a person would buy a gun and then not shoot it! It' a TOOL!!!!!! USE IT!!! ENJOY IT!!!
To fondle it, wipe it, gawk at it, show it off that you wont shoot it -- etc. is "weird" (IMHO!)Last edited by beerman; 06-22-2018, 5:50 AM.Comment

Hey doc540,
I hope you don't mind us Jokers joking with you (like me) and telling you to "just shoots it."
its America, or at least it was, you do whatever you want.
I have a feeling that some of us would be in the
" I just can't get myself to shoot a rare gem camp" if we were in your position and had something really beautiful like that revolver.
(even if we aren't normally keepers of safe queens.)Comment

LOL at the guys with the turn ring issue. He's not selling it to you or asking what you think it is worth.
I would clean the factory grease off and re-oil with Barricade or other rust preventative, and put it away. If I am buying a "shooter" Python, I would not spend the extra coin to get one that is NIB. I would buy one with a turn ring on it already for less $$$. One like this was purchased as an investment at a premium price, probably. I have a Python that is very clean, but has been fired. I, too, shoot it occasionally...but I would not shoot one like this.Comment

I don't think a more aesthetically pleasing DA revolver has ever or will ever be made than a Colt Python.Comment

You've never bought a car or a gun to resell it and spend your profit on another project?
Done it many times.
I flipped a '69 Camaro with 29K miles and the original bias ply spare in the trunk.

Not a good analogy; So for those that are in the camp of "shoot it", I am betting you don't spend your silver dollars...because they are just a coin, and should be used? Or pop a mint proof set out to play quarters? Yeah, thought not. Some guns are just too collectible or are so beautiful, that they are happy being fondled but never shot.
If you spend your silver dollars they're gone, you don't own them anymore. Shooting this beauty would be more like handing your silver dollars to someone in exchange for goods or services, and then they hand them back to you for later use.
So using the logic above, would you say that the really beautiful women should just be fondled, but never made love to?
I can see the reasoning behind not shooting collectibles, and it makes no difference to me what OP does with HIS gun, but me personally, I'd rather shoot an awesome gun, drive an amazing car, and make sweet passionate love to a beautiful woman, than just looking.
Nice snake OP.Too many hobbies, Too little time.
Mind you, I'm 5'7", 180, with a visible Ab...Comment
