Colt Python NIB - Clean or No?

Bought this today.

After taking it from the plastic bag, it appears to have some kind of oil/protectant on it, like "cosmoline light".

Difficult for me to keep from wiping it down, but should I leave it "as is" from the factory?

I don't plan to shoot it.

What say the expert collectors here?

lube it and bag it. Take lots of pics while it's out of the safe.

Take a pic of the cylinder, it looks like a turn line. If so there is no way it's not NIB.

Have pics of the complete box? Are you familiar with Pythons to know what to look for?

Have you considered having it molded into a Lucite block so it will stay pristine and valuable?

At today's "prices" Pythons should certainly NEVER be shot.
Not the mint ones anyhow.

A Lucite block would be forever.

if it was mine I think I would carefully remove the oil and use something like Renaissance wax so that even if it was a safe queen (which I personally don't do.) I could at least take it out of the safe look at it, show it to my friends without getting oil/grease all over us.
but don't listen to me, I don't really do safe gueens.

To fondle it, wipe it, gawk at it, show it off that you wont shoot it -- etc. is "weird" (IMHO!)

Once you cerakote it, the value goes up 33%. At least according to the CGN Marketplace.
