    Purchasing my first handgun

So today I am going to a couple local gun shops here in the south bay. I am deciding between a Glock and Beretta. Im thinking about purchasing a 92G-SD. Don't really know to much about guns still trying to learn as much as I can. Please feel free to drop any knowledge you may have. Thank you

You're the best person to determine the ergos, size, and fit. Try both and see which you like better-- then go to your local range, rent, and shoot both with a buddy.

If you're still stuck after that, you'll have a lot of topics to debate between:
    -DA/SA Hammer vs Striker
-Manual Safety vs No Manual Safety
    -Steel vs Polymer
    -Ergos
    -Etc

Best of luck and congrats on your new consideration

Do this before you buy anything. And make sure you pick a buddy that is familiar with handguns.

Me? I like a metal, hammer fired pistol. I'd go with the Beretta, but follow the above posters advice.

Go to a range that rents and shoot different types of actions and make a decision from there.

If you're in the South Bay, attend one of Bill Tidwell's NRA introduction classes at Reed's. Night 3 of the class, you shoot a large variety of handguns, and that'd give you a better idea of what might be best for you.

Rent the Bereta, full size Glock, full size CZ, 1911 and full size Sig Sauer. Shoot them all. Decide what works for you, buy it. Than you will buy some more.
              Good luck!

You cannot go wrong with either....but you can be labeled forever!

Yep it's like joining a fan club. I have Glock and have a lot of fun at the range.
Many like the heavy feeling of the Beretta. Lots of options for each.

                Sure you don't want a Hi-Point C9?

Also to consider is what you're primary use of the gun will be...home defense, concealed carry (not likely considering you're shopping in the South Bay), range gun, etc.

Also consider how often you'll be shooting it.

Most of all, buy what fits and what you shoot the best. Which gun gives you a bigger smile?

Both fine weapons, but "very" different. Like a few others, I strongly recommend you go rent a bunch of different pistols at the range, and start whittling down what you want/need After you shoot them.

Definitely, rent first if you can.

A Beretta 92 is a fine gun, but many find it big in the hand. A Glock can feel like a toy and with no visible hammer can leave an unpracticed user uncertain as to its readiness to fire. That said, both are good guns and there will be lots of folks on both sides.

IMHO, the best first handgun would be a double action revolver, such as Smith and Wesson, Ruger, Taurus, etc. , witha 4" barrel. The funs are reliable, great to learn onz and don't go bang without pretty certain user input.

Last, take a weekend and sit through a NRA approved firearm safety class or hunter safery class. They are easy to find, are fun, and you will learn a lot of great information.

Sig SP2022 in 9mm. I have nothing but good things to say about it. 9mm gives you cheaper ammo to shoot more. The gun has good ergos (better than beretta) and you get a Sig in the sub $500 price point. I love mine

I love my Beretta but I think the Glock is a better first weapon. Easier to use (no hammer, decocker, safety, etc) and a little easier to maintain.

Don't bother with any of the above advice. Take mine....

buy all the guns you can until you find the one that fits your perfectly. the other ones that don't really fit you keep anyway because before you know it the US Government will say no more and your two new favorite words will be Molon Labe....

But seriously though connect with someone that has quite a few and shoot them. Make sure you know someone that has proper technique and can advise you on shooting vs someone that just says "here. pull the trigger"

there is a lot to learn and observe. good luck and let us know what you end up with

There are local meet-ups as well. Let us know your general area and perhaps we can help point you in a better direction.
