Ruger SP101

I been wanting to buy a wheel gun for a while and my top three models at these moment are out reach. They are the following 586,688, and Python. I plan on getting them in the near future and prefer to get the prelock Smiths due to better quality. I was looking at the Ruger GP line, but the big hunch near the grip, turns me away from buying one. I recently found out about the Ruger SP101 in .357 with a 4.2 barrel, and was wondering if it is on the roster? The hunch is not as noticeable and really find it to be quite beauriful. I couldn't find the SP line on the roster, but found a model with the same specs and manufacturer number. Is this model the same model as the SP101 from KYGunco? SP 101 are awesome guns and stronger than most Smiths. The triggers are horrible but can be corrected.

I own both GP100 and SP101 and actually like the fit and feel of the SP101 better. GP100 shoots great but the SP101 takes it. I think the 4" barrel is perfect for that size pistol

it is a compact framed .357

Despite the longer barrel, it will likely recoil quite a bit more than a larger(and heavier) framed revolver.
You can always run .38's through her, but you might want to rent one first.

Yes, I agree the barrel is perfect, I tend to be a fan of longer barrels, but the Sp101 looks great.

I plan on running both, but will focus more on .357 in order to practice my technique for home defense.

Shot it last week with both .38 Special and .357 and I couldnt tell the difference in recoil. Maybe I was just too excited to shoot it, I was expecting it to 'muzzle flip' with .357 but recoil was just as "tame" as .38 Sp. I like that it came with Fiber Optic front site and rear is adjustable.

Now that's the start of a nice line up.

.22LR & .357 Hammer spring replaced on the .357 dwn from .14 lbs to .13lbs. very smooth 500 rds, love it

.22LR 16lbs. dwn to .14...haven't shot yet but still a hard pull. May go 12 Lbs. and break that spring in instead.

I did a little polishing on trigger parts. Triggers are no reason not to buy a SP101

That is a great question!

I started by going on Youtube and found this Youtuber named Sal Barajas who is one of my if not my favorite Youtuber.

He has a series of 3 videos each going to different stages of a trigger job on a SP101. It took me 4 hours total to complete his trigger job after viewing all 3 of his videos.

I purchased the kit he recommended and put in the parts/springs as suggested. I'm satisfied with the results, as the trigger is greatly improved, but in a perfect world I'd still like a better trigger. I think my issue is that I have a hammerless SP101 and it feels like there is a notch or catching feeling between where the weapon would have gone from single to double action, but since I have a hammerless, the hammer is made not to stop/rest between single and double actions.

I also purchased a battery operated Dremel tool for this job and I'm very, very glad I did.

Triple, mine is pretty smooth now. It may just be in the weapon, feeling it at that stage, the cylinder is locking up. I can stop the trigger pull at that point at will if I want.
