1k is too much, IMO, but if the market will bear that price, then I guess they're priced right.

Does that include the single action conversion?

Edit: oh, maybe it's a consignment setup.

Actually, I think I will be pricing my 4" unfired 686-3 (with new Ahrends Goncalo Alves square butt grips) for a little bit more....so I don't think it's out of line

If you are asking us it's too high. Otherwise you'd have snatched em up already.

$1K is somewhat overpriced especially when you figure in fees & shipping. Watch the marketplace and/or hit the gun shops frequently. You can do better. Having the S&W "M" mod already done is a plus though. S&W doesn't charge for it but still a bit of a PITA.

Might get more with a set of real S&W stocks...

The non MIM guns with forged parts do command a premium price. he price may be too high but not by a whole lot. If they don't sell, the price will come down. If they do sell, then the price was right.

Wouldn't keeping it original increase its value though? The no "M" marked ones should be harder and harder to find. I have a 6" no dash no M and its a great revolver by the way. The M mod was to address a certain ammo brand that I believe isn't even made anymore.

the pricing on S&W pre-locks in general has been rising for awhile and frequently is all over the road from one shop to another, and from one individual to another. the matter becomes a lesson in how badly you want something and if you carry the virtues of tenacity and patience to find the right deal for you.

With people asking 850 for a post lock in the marketplace a hundred fifty bucks more for an original model doesn't seem outrageous. I guess it boils down to condition, how bad someone wants it, and finding a buyer who appreciates the -0 vs -13

Well... the 686 are not really rare collectibles in the first place. The hammer nose bushing mod addresses a real problem that will disable the gun, and not just with specific ammo. My 4" will lock up occasionally with my full house handloads. I have a mailing label, just need to send the thing in.

I recently bought a 6" no dash that hasn't been modified & seems to be OK. Not all guns exhibited the problem.

More than I would pay but the -4 is desirable. Last change before they went to MIM & frame mounted firing pin. Also the $1K is no tax or shipping. My guess would be that the gun is a super sweet shooter & the new owner will be very pleased.

                        Rubber stocks though

                            I wouldn't sell my 686-3 for $1k either.

Definitely worth it. 686 is S&W's counterpart to the stainless Python. It hasn't fetched the Python pricing because it is technically still in production, even though there are differences between the older models and the newer ones.
