    10-8 Flat Trigger Installed!

Just fitted and installed a 10-8 flat trigger in my Dan Wesson Specialist and felt like a photoshoot! Install was pretty easy, just a lot of carful filing on the top and bottom of the trigger shoe. Luckily for me the overtravel didn't need any grinding at all.

Based on dry firing the trigger feels lighter than before, definitely shorter. The "wall" is less positive than before, the takeup blends right into the break with minimal change in feel.

    Range Report

Went to the local range during my lunch break for a little test drive. Shot 200 rounds of reloaded FMJ from a local shop. I definitely like the feel more than the stock DW trigger, the pull is very solid and the wall/break that felt too light during dry fire was actually perfect with live ammo. I guess sitting in the living room "shooting" at the tv is just not the same as actually being on the range. The stock DW trigger had a little bit of rattle and felt more loose when being pulled, in contrast the 10-8 trigger feels very satisfying to pull, it's the perfect amount of "clunk" if that makes any sense.

I will say that I shot a little slower during rapid fire than I do with a curved trigger. I'm not sure if this is just because I'm not used to the feel of the flat trigger, or the overtravel needs to be adjusted, or it's inherent to the design. But I definitely notice that it is slower than the trigger on my Professional.

So far I really like the trigger and think it's a worthy addition to the DW Specialist. I'm probably not going to go out and replace all my 1911s with these triggers quite yet. I will shoot it more and develop a more in depth familiarity with it before forming a conclusion on it.

I am kinda different, I prefer a more positive wall kinda like a carry trigger.

Yeah, I'm actually not sure on how I feel about the "wall" being so minimal. I think I can make it a bit more positive if I grind down the overtravel nub a little bit, of course this would be at the expense of more overtravel. I dry fired it more after I posted last night, next to my SA Professional which has a more substantial wall, trying to figure out which I liked more. I finally decided to take it to the range before I decide whether I want to touch the overtravel.

One thing I will say is I definitely like the flat trigger against my finger more than the curved. Not big enough of a difference that I have to go and replace all my triggers now, but enough that it has a noticibly nicer feel to it.

As you can see from the Valor CAGLS posted, there is something natural looking about a flat solid trigger in a DW! I encourage you to try it, it's really very simple as long as you take your time. The only tools you'll need is a regular file and very importantly a sharpie to track where you need to grind.

I was thinking of buying the 10-8 flat trigger as well, however thanks to your reviews I think I am going to stick to the stock trigger. Or find a carry or, err "tactical" trigger.

So the purpose of a flat trigger is improvement on feel?

The stock trigger is pretty nice, and if you already like it I wouldn't touch it. I'll update this post with my impressions after shooting it and if I decide to tune the overtravel a little.

From my understanding the main difference is the feel of the trigger and how your finger lands on it. This was the original reason the OG 1911 trigger was replaced with the extended curved one that is popular now.
