Advantage Arms .22 Glock 17 conversion

About a month ago I purchased an Advantage Arms .22 Glock 17 conversion kit. I've been having a difficult time finding the recommended ammo Advantage Arms says to use (CCI Mini Mags, CCI Blazer, Federal Automatch, Remington Golden Bullets). I had some .22 ammo for my 10/22, but none was recommended for the conversion kit. But the kit was calling out to me, "Shoot me, shoot me", so I thought the heck with it, I'll go out to the range, and try what I have.

I didn't expect much. I had some Aguilla 40 grain, standard velocity, Winchester Super X high velocity, and CCI Standard velocity. My expectations where correct, and none of this ammo worked well. They all were FTE within the first round or 2. I was ready to go home, but the range had some ammo, so I thought I'd try it out. It was Armscor 36 grain, high velocity, hollow point. Surprisingly, it worked beautifully. The conversion kit went through 150 rounds without a hiccup. Which is great, because this ammo is easily found online and is in stock. I'm going to buy me a couple of bricks to use, so now my son and I can go to the range and shoot .22!! So for any of you that have the Advantage Arms kit, you can add the Armscor ammo to your list of ammo that works.

I had one for about a month and sold it, but I had no issues with any kind of ammo - even the ones they didn't recommend.

003, did you ever get your kit problem resolved? Does it work now? Mine worked fine with the Armscor stuff this afternoon, and I just found some CCI Minimags, so I should be good.

I've found that mixing a couple of drops of ATF on the casings cured all the FTF/FTE problems using any type of 22r

Ammo specificity is critical for any .22 LR pistol/rifle. I've yet to find any ammo that universally works for every rifle/pistol.

AA 22 LR - I have the exact same one. Remington Golden Bullet works best for mine. Get on Midway's auto notification and order as soon as you get the email. Averaging $.056 per round. Not as cheap as it used to be at $.03. With 9mm coming in at $.11/rd reload - It's hard to justify the 22 lr kit.

Walther P22 - only works with Remington Golden Bullet. All others jam like mad or fails to eject. I may get a Volquarsen extractor for it to see if that helps.

            Kimber Conversion - RGB again.

Beretta M9 Converstion - RGB again.

Absolutely no luck with Fiocci, CCI. Non-plated.

ALSO - plated bullets works best. Non plated - is an excuse for frustration IMHO.

Had plenty of RGB before Sandy Hook and recently picked up a couple buckets. But from my experience walmart federal bulk blue pak works reliably enough to be a viable alternative. Winchester 100 round red tray and thunder bolts chokes on every round.

Had a chance to get out with my Advantage Arms and do some ammo testing. Results as follows:

                  Not approved
American Eagle 40gr (FTF every other round through 50)

                  Approved
CCI Standard velocity 40gr (no malfunctions 50 rounds)
Eley 40 grain match (no malfunctions 50 rounds)
Remington 22 Yellow Jacket HP (flawless 50 rounds and best punch out the gun that mimicked 9mm'ish practice)

Glock G19 and AA 22LR conversion kit used.

Filipino ammo! I have CCI Mini Mags and they've been flawless.

Interesting good to know. I've seen lots of Armscor ammo on gunbot.net and assumed its junk because it doesn't look like it sells too fast. Might have to give some a try if I find a good price.

Just got back from the range using my advantage arms conversion on my 19 and Remington golden bullets ran flawlessly. I also ran some miscellaneous 22 I had laying around but I don't know what they were other than lead round nose. Between the two brands I shot 70 rounds with two failure to fire, no fault of the conversion kit.

Overall I am very happy with it, it was fun to shoot. Point of impact was high and right compared the shooting 9mm, but it was consistent.

What kind of accuracy are you guys seeing with these, especially with the higher quality ammo?

Just as accurate as the 9mm once you get the sights adjusted to whatever ammo you choose to run

Use the recommended ammo. It makes a huge difference.

Example: federal "value pack" ammo (in the 525 rd box) -- my ar22 eats this all day; but my Advantage Arms g19 kit would fail to eject every round.

Switched up to CCI minimags in the AA kit: runs like a champ.
