Coonan .357 Mag 1911

I like 1911's and have recently been growing pretty fond of the .357 Mag round. So the Coonan seems like the perfect blend of the 2. Hickock45 just reviewed one recently and it was mostly positive.

Does anyone own one, or has anyone shot one? What are your thoughts? The grips don't look that good in my opinion, but I'm sure you could custom order something that would look good. I'm more interested on how it handles, and how it compares to shooting the 357 Mag out of a revolver.

I have a Marlin 1894C and a Colt Python in .357. If I were a rich man the Coonan would pretty much complete my .357 collection. Just for ducks, where are they pricewise? No, wait....

Got mine while we could still get off roster pistols. It is a joy to shoot. Pistol has weight to it but that helps in managing the 357 mag cartridge. I found the recoil to be very manageable and very shootable gun overall. On my coonan it has the woods grips on it, I like the look of wood better in my opinion and I do not have a problem with losing my grip while shooting. However, if you want better grips, you can always get the aluminum grips. The magazines are decent, the springs are just very tight and it can be somewhat a pain to load the full 7 rounds, just takes a while to break them in. Also, for 38 special to cycle reliably, the ammo should be +p and you might still run into some jams. This gun is meant for 357 mag. Full power 357 mag rounds will function just fine. Personally, I am very happy that I was able to acquire one, it is fun to shoot. Just don't treat it like a safe queen. Take it out; it is meant to be shot.

I've had one for years. Fantastic pistol. Very accurate and comfortable to shoot. Great for 357 reloaders.

I played with one about 10 years ago. It's a cool novelty gun but, the grip was too big for me.

Thanks guys. Seems everyone likes them. Man I hate our gun laws...I guess i'm going to have to keep my eyes out for one in the classifieds. If ever one of you guys is considering selling...... let me know! But I doubt thats going to happen.

I was able to round out the trio with one. It has a very nice feel to it and customer service has been great with any questions I have. I also bought the 6" barrel.
