    Com-Block Hnadguns on C&R List

I would like to hear from owners of Com-Block handguns on the C&R list. What can you buy online / through FFL that is fun? Cheap right now? Where are the best deals?

Looking around online, I see two main alternatives based on different ammo platforms, each with lots of sub-varieties:

Makarov - the PM and most of its variants I see online look great. I really love the resemblance to the PPK. But it seems like a pretty big hunk of iron for eight rounds of 9X18, and the round seems a bit underpowered and expensive. Halfway I between 9 x 19 and 9 x 17, not sure I get it.

Tokarov - lots of variants of the TT. Really big handgun. Looks like it would be fun to shoot. The round is unlike anything else out there, don't know what to compare it to.

I am leaning toward the Tokarov. Can anyone point me to something more compact than a TT variant that shoots 7.62 x 25? Where are the best deals right now? Am I overlooking some cool guns I should know about?

In case anyone asks what I am going to use it for, the answer is nothing, really. I have other guns and don't really have a need, just a want. I guess that makes it a range toy, but I would like for it have real capability and reliability, even for range toy.

    School me, please!

I've never heard of that caliber.

Are you sure you're not talking about the 9X18 Makarov?

        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

The Polish P64 is chambered in 9X18 not 9X19.

Two of my favourites are the Polish P64 and CZ-82. Both are chambered in 9X18 Makarov.

The price of the ammo had gotten kind of high but has come down. Keep looking for it.

Power wise it is right between the 9X17 and 9X19.

              I've seen more P64s than CZ-82s.

As far as Tokarev, besides the TT-33 and its clones the only other pistol I know that uses that ammo is the CZ-52 and that thing is a bit meatier than the TT-33.

I have the Makarov, Tokarev, P64 and CZ82.

                  1. Best looking - Makarov
                  2. The one I shoot the best - Unbelieveably, the P64? It is tiny, has an awful DA trigger but a pretty decent SA Trigger. Horrible sights but I shoot it well, I have no idea why
                  3. Best DA Trigger - CZ82 has a killer trigger, well made, but heavy as hell and I have discovered that I don't like external hammers on my CCW guns, I have accidentally pulled the hammer back when drawing from concealed.
                  4. Most fun to shoot - Tokarev. That round kicks butt, loud as hell and fast as hell. What a great, cheap fun plinker although the ammo is no longer cheap.

I like them all, that's why I own them all.

Thanks, Capybara. I am leaning towards the P-64. Plenty of them around right now. Questions for you. When you rack the slide, it initially goes into SA, right? Only get to DA if you click the safety/decocker? Then if you want to go back into SA, you can always cock the hammer rather than using the trigger in DA, right? For a range toy, I may not shoot DA much.

I am still having a hard time with a six round mag. Anyone make an after market 10 rounder for it? Will any of the other 9x19 mags with higher capacity fit in a P-64?

I was looking at a P64. Realized that mags and parts are increasingly hard to find, if you can find them at all. One of those guns you buy along with all the parts you'll ever need.

Yes, after racking the slide the pistol will be in SA mode with the hammer back. Yes, as a range toy you will not often use the DA mode unless desired. No, there are no higher capacity magazines available for the P-64 of which I am aware. No, other pistol magazines will not fit the P-64.

And to reiterate, the P-64 is chambered in 9x18 Makarov, not 9x19 Parabellum/Luger/etc.

If you like the steep grip angle, the CZ-52 and/or TT-33 (or similar) in 7.62x25mm are very fun, make a lot of noise, and aren't too expensive. You can also buy a giant spam can of ammo and be fine for, well, a pretty long time.

I know at least one acquaintance who keeps a TT-33 with him when he hunts because it's thin and powerful.

                            Maks are fun too.

Buy a Tokarev. I don't know where you got the impression that they are large handguns. Feels good in my hands, and i wear size large glove.
