Since Colt has discontinued this model, is it good idea to get one before prices on these go way up once the supply dries up?

Really sounds like you are choosing the XSE for the wrong reason.

No if you think it will go up in price a lot.
Biggest 2 reason -- it's not a blued series 70 nor a wartime Colt.
As long as Springfield, Kimber, SIG makes a nice 1911 (roster or not) no reason for a high premium. So pretend next year, would anyone pay a premium for a XSE when a TRP is the same price? Nope, not me.

Agreed. Get one because you want it and it might not be available later, period. There's no way to know if prices will go higher or lower but once it's discontinued it's probably going to be harder and harder to find.

That is not a limited run pistol they have been making that model for year's, thousands of them out there. The pistol is fantastic, collectable not really. Buy one they feel great in the hand with the high under cut trigger guard.

I personally don't put any value to the Colt name, except maybe an actual 1873 Colt SAA. Or once of those awesome pre/early WWII 1911s with the deep blying. Their modern 1911s ... meh, other people do it better for cheaper (because the name Colt is not on it). It was a JMB design, Colt made them, but so did other companies, so what's so special about a modern Colt firearm?

But if you like collecting, then by all means do so.

Don't buy an XSE for "investment" purposes, buy it because that's the ONE you want. The 6-7 I've handled ALL felt like crap: rattled, subpar finishing, didn't feel good in the hands. I don't think many would pay top dollar for that Colt, especially being a S80 too. JMO

Buds gun shop has them for $867.Thats a hell of a good price .I got me one and its a nice gun and helps to support the good old USA. You folks that Rag on Colts don't go away mad just go away..Just kidding U All............

Colt holds its value better than the other guys, so there's that.
I wouldn't buy one just for investment though, I would buy it to shoot.
Yeah that lose colt will run where those tight guns are only good for the range.
The colts good to go , but most ria guns are too.

I have a XSE I got last month and just hit the 2000 round mark....not one issue with the colt, stock mags, Wilson 47d mags or Wilson etm mags. Perfecta,federal aluminum, wwb,230 hydro shok,tula, Remington, and a bag of dubious reloads(bullet looked like aluminum hollow points) all run just fine. I'm liking this gun better then my 70 series and puts my buddies railed trp to shame. The gun hits on poa and functions like a champ. I'm debating getting another one or picking up a ria in 38super.

Ammo Bro's has the Defender at $799.99 this week, just a change up option. The frame is aluminum, and a 3" barrel. It's quite a change up from a full size 1911. That was "go buy it" price point for me, but I think I will see if they go down to $725 range .

I am also waiting for the $450 California AR (M&P Sport will be there soon), it's going to happen!

I think it's a buyer's market right now, just buy low.

Speaking as an idiot who sold his Python for $450 3 months before the announced discontinuance, I say BUY ONE NOW!

I ...hated... the Pythons I had. God knows I TRIED to like em, but the goofy grip angle and touchy lockwork said, "SMITH AND WESSON ALL THE WAY!"

Do I regret selling that last snake? Hell yes, but only because I can't dump it now while the market is nuts with the "legend."

COLT is going to be a premium gun in the future. Like a Python? Probly not, but the NAME is something that Kimber, S&W, et al will never have.

The NAME is all the Python is working off of. It reminds me of the M29s during Dirty Harry days.

If you can afford to get one for speculation, go right ahead. I think it will prove correct.
