    Glock 17 gen 3 vs gen 4

I've been looking into buying a glock 17 but was wondering which one I should get. Usually you find the gen 3 for the 550 price range and the gen 4 in the 800 range now that it is off roster. Are the gen 4 really worth getting or should I stick to a gen 3 and save my money?

Thanks in advance for your feedback

Having owned both, 9mm I would stick with Gen3 (or even better gen 1 or 2)

    40 Gen 4

If you have small hands the Gen 4 might fit better.

If you are an above average shooter then the slight improvement in accuracy that is common on Gen 4 models might be worth it.

What do you plan on doing with the gun? Home defense? Competition? Safe queen?

Gen3 is proven and has many more aftermarket parts. Gen4 is not as proven but in more demand because you can't get them now because SSE is over, have to buy from ppt.

You can't go wrong with either, gen 4 if you have smaller hands.

          I own a GEN4 G17 and G19 . They are great with FULL POWER LE/Military ammo.

I carry a GEN3 G17 on duty. Its great with ANY ammo.

If I was buying a .40 I would stick with GEN4 , but GEN3 woudl be just fine too.

My favorite Glocks are GEN2 in 9mm.

PS. Just bought a G43. Very nice little gun, but not as near as solid and shootable as my GEN3 26.

The magazine release is larger on the Gen 4 if that matters to you.

I don't find that it makes it any easier though.

I have a glock 30 for self defense and range practice of course so just wanted to add something new. I'm also debating on the glock 19 but it's ether the 17 or the 19

I have owned both a gen 3 and gen 4. I like the extra features on the gen 4 but the gen 3 is solid and you can't go wrong with either.

Since you have the 30 for home defense and your just looking for something new i'd get the Gen 4, try it out and if you don't like it sell it and get the gen 3. gen 4s will hold their value.

That is a lot of money to spend for the Gen 4. I want one too, but I could not personally justify that price...or any price at the moment. So I would say it all comes down to a combination to how your finances are looking and what your needs/wants are. That is really a question only you can answer.

If it were you only self defense gun I would say Gen 3 is more proven. But you have other guns. So the sky is the limit, if ya have the greenbacks.
