    Anyone shoot 357 Sig?

I have lots of 40 brass, and lots of 9mm bullets....Seems like a nice re-loader's caliber with only a barrel change.
    Any thoughts? Yes/No?
I see several handguns with conversion barrels for sale. Just wondering what the deal is.
    Thanks
It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop at the bottom.

i've shot 357sig out of my glock 29 with a barrel conversion. its not too bad. i found it to be snappy. but have only shot 150 rounds or so.

if you reload might be worth it. to buy ammo in 357sig not so much

Yeah, I've been looking to get a 357Sig barrel for my S&W M&P 40c, but I keep missing it when it comes up on E-Bay. One day....

I like my 40c & the 9c and doing a barrel swap with the 40c ain't bad to try out the 357Sig....

I shoot 40 & 357sig out of my Sig229 . I got 2 barrels and loads of ammo with it. >500 rounds mixed

Haven't reloaded yet but have found cheaper reloads.

I like 357sig it seems to shoot flatter then 40s&w and less recoil (to me)

I shoot .357 Sig more than any other pistol caliber. It is by far my favorite.
I buy it by the case when it is on sale. I can usually get it for the same price as .40 S&W.

AS far as reloading goes be sure to do your homework. It is more than simply a .40 case necked down to take a 9mm bullet.

I don't take it to the range every time, but I really like shooting it, and I like carrying it too. Sometimes it can be comforting to know you've got some energy with you. As mentioned above, it's affordable when you can find it on sale…similar to .45ACP in cost a lot of times.

It was designed at the request of a fed agency (i have no idea which one) to mimic the .357 Magnum but be able to fire out of a semi auto.

The cheapest is going to be reloads from Georgia Arms. They are just down the way from the FLETC in Georgia- they get all of their .357 Sig brass from there.

While the .357 Sig is essentially a .40 cal necked down to hold a .355 cal bullet, I remember reading that .357 Sig cases CANNOT be made by necking down .40 cal cases. As I recall it has something to do with neck length.

Question for you guys shooting both 357 Sig and 40 S&W in the same gun. With the added wall thickness of the barrel and the weight that comes along with it, how do the two rounds compare recoil-wise in the same gun? By recoil, I am most interested in muzzle flip and if it is any snappier

While standard 9mm bullets are sized right for 357SIG, they generally will not work. A few different issues (not even complete):

FMJ - 1) round nose bullets are usually too long for OAL limits, 2) many bullets designed for 9mm do not have the appropriate purchase area to maintain good bullet retention

JHP - 1) 9mm HP rounds are not always built strong enough for the additional speed and can result in jacket separation, 2) HP rounds are designed for maximum expansion in a given range, slower = no/low expansion, faster = over expansion (causing loss of effectiveness). Using 9mm bullets in 357SIG can result in over expansion, even loss of petals on impact.

Some of those issues could be solved by using lighter loads, but then why bother.

Then you get into brass issues.

Length, .40 cases are actually too short to make in-spec rounds. People have done it before, but it is not a recommended practice.

Pressure, 357SIG specs call for significantly higher pressure than .40. It is possible the brass is still within the margin of error (since manufacturers usually over-engineer products), but again not recommended.

Of course, these are generalizations that do not apply to every round. Usually flat nosed FMJs seem to have the right type of purchase area, for example. Proceed with caution.

I have conversion barrels for my .40 Sig 226 and M&Pc, and have shot .357 Sig for about two years now. I love the round, both for its easy interchangeability in my .40 guns, and its shooting characteristics.

I am a reloader, and have reloaded 1,000's of .40 rounds but no .357 yet. Soon though!

It's a very good round. 357 Mag ballistics out of a short barrel. Have 10 rounds of magnum like performance. Me I'll stick with the 40S&W for the bigger and heavy bullet than a .355" bore can provide.

                              I had a uspc .357sig/.40

Never once shot .357 sig out of it. Didn't feel like I missed out much on anything. Let us know how much that case costs.
