This is one of the most misunderstood of all of California's stupid gun laws.

Thanks! I'd read different sites about the actual codes....was still unclear on locking up both, both together, and the ambiguous language about the trunk (SUV is an issue)....appreciate it!

Gun must be unloaded.

Unless you have your CCW. In which case, it doesn't matter. This is how I go to the range. Normal carry piece on my hip, everything else loaded except long guns.

What thickness did you use in this case?

2 1/4" I had to thin it down though. The case is 4" thick or so, but I also had two 1/4" trays. For the future, I'm going to make a hot wire to cut the foam.

Sorry OP for the hi jack, So magazines can be loaded in a locked container with the gun, just not inside the gun.

Thanks for the post OP. I bought the 3 case set from HD a couple weeks ago with the intent of turning them into range cases too. I haven't sat down to draw it out yet but I really like the way you set it up so forgive me in advance for "borrowing" your ideas

SR9C. It was my first pistol. I was walking a line between big enough to take to the range and small enough to carry if I got my CCW. I still shoot it best.

Mags: 1911 mags won't fit in the bins well. Thus, they are out of place with my Shield on that layer. The other mags are 7 and 8 round Shield and 4 qty 10 round SR9C mags. I really don't know if I'll carry them there, but I had to throw something in for the picture. I initially intend to use half the bins for spent brass.

Two. Its 4" deep. Not much room for more.

I tried to load the guns vertically, but the 1911 wouldn't fit. It hits the lid.

I have since found out that the inner lid comes out. I can cut out the center panel of that inner lid and gain half an inch. I might experiment with that some more.
