Walther P99

Someone please educate me on this sidearm. I meant to get a PPQ but got stuck out of state for a few months when SSE ended.

I just bought this via ppt $475 otd. I haven't even held the sidearm yet or tried out the trigger. Reason for purchase: it looks cool and Bond used one. It has the QA trigger

Anything to pay special attention to?

It's a great gun and you got it for a good price. I actually like it a bit better than the PPQ for a number of reasons - most importantly the de-cocker button. Also, the protruding striker pin on the rear is nice - you can immediately tell if the gun is cocked. I miss both of those on the PPQ, but I suppose there were good reasons to remove them.

As far as reliability, they're rock solid. I have an original P99 that has thousands and thousands of rounds through it and never a problem and it's extremely accurate.

The biggest gripe people have against them is the way the trigger works. I personally like it, but the hard first pull and very light subsequent pulls tend to put a lot of US shooters off. I believe the gun was designed for law enforcement in Europe who wanted a "high stress mode" for the first pull to avoid accidental discharge, and a very light pull for subsequent shots.

congrats. i have no history with this pistol, but know that you got a good deal. see how you like it. i can't decide if the gun looks medieval or futuristic.

I own the 9mm P99 AS, Love it, At that price it was an awesome deal. Never had a malfunction, even with reloads and aluminum case ammo. I cant comment on the QA trigger but for the AS the Double action is a long, heavy and not a pleasant trigger pull but the the Single action is good. the trigger break is well defined near the end of the pull, really lends itself to rapid fire. The decocker is nice to have but I don't know why they would put it in the QA version if you decock it you have to re cock it to fire (no double action).
Sights are nice and clear. Packaging is good with an appropriate slot for everything but don't like the live hinge on the box, makes me feel like it will break off with frequent opening and closing. Mags are have nice finish, made by mecgar, hurts my thumb when loading, the mag follower could have been better to ease loading.

When you buy a Walther, you really can't go wrong... That's in the words of a gun guy that I very much respect (he's probably owned more guns than have passed through the big gun shops).

Which version of the P99 is it? They made quite a few changes over the years. I have a pair of them from the 90's in silver tenifer finish (one in 9mm and one in .40). The 9mm was my go-to gun for about 25 years and it's my all-time favorite. Those had the original European triggers on them that everyone of my friends hated - but I got hooked on them.

Don't forget the Beretta .25 and I don't believe Bond was ever issued a PPQ....

Walther P99 QA trigger post 2005, newer trigger guard. Looks like the slide was made by smith and wesson. I may have to polish some internals, no biggie.

Nope, he takes an HK VP9 off a bad guy.... So is it going to be "correct", "as issued by Q branch" or will it be a free for all based on every gun bond picked up in a film and shot??
