Keep in mind that nearly all .45 JHP rounds fired out of a less-than-4" barrel have major issues getting the velocity necessary to achieve full expansion upon imact. Almost all ammo manufacturers consider a 4" barrel the bare minimum for a .45 JHP. That's the exact reason the XDS 4.0 was introduced.

      I'd get a 4" cuz i can't carry anyways....

It would be funner/easier to shoot fast when I want.

However, he's not you, so the OP is free to buy a better gun than a glock.

          Too funny^^..

I must be dyslexic myself but I could of sworn op was asking about either a 3.3 or 4.0 XDS?? Where'd Glocks come from?? Any who, I've shot both 9 and 45 and had both in the 3.3 version. Recoil on the 45 isn't bad at all, very manageable. As far as caliber goes that's subjective to the end user. Sorry I couldn't tell you what the 4.0 is like but stating the obvious for ccw would be the 3.3

Good luck and you'll be happy with either or even a glock..oh wait sorry your weren't asking about them.

Pick the right ammo and you won't have an issue. On top of that, you are starting with a .45 projectile.

3.3 for me as well, but I am very happy with Glock 42 right now.

I carry the XDS 4.0 9mm. Was never a fan of the xd line before but I like carrying the XDS and the 4.0 is not much bigger then the 3.3. With the extended mag at the range it almost feels like a full size gun. I think the 4.0 is the best of both worlds, carry and range gun.
I've never shot the 45 XDS so I can't help you there.

I went with the 3.3 because, well... 0.7.

Awesome gun, don't know how much difference it really makes but I was goin for smallest. Love this gun.
