yep, handy on small boat patrols where you apt to lose just about anything not tied down..
also handy on any kind of extended field duty where your gear moves around a lot..
my last unit switched to serpas which does have a robust retention, but we still wore lanyards just in case..
there are some practical applications outside of the .mil as well.. lanyard ring?
but this was certainly the first time I've ever heard of a gun owner not knowing what it was for
I started out with nothing - and I still have most of itComment

I got me a buddy who can fix ya right up. He can shave it, chop it, replace it with internal servos, chrome, repaint even put in hydraulics, bro. Any you need. Twice pipes, chain steering wheel, you name it anythin custom.Only slaves don't need guns

We already have the only reasonable Gun Control we need, It's called the Second Amendment and it's the government it controls.

Just take a dremel to it. Man, the dremel is the greatest gunsmith tool in the world. I've done so much work on my guns with it. You'd hardly even recognize what they once were.NRA Life Member since 1990
They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

One older use that has lost favor in modern times; the lanyard ring was on the magazine, and not the butt of the gun, as can be seen on such earlier guns as 1911s and the Steyr-Hahn.
If you look at some earlier semi-automatic magazines, they have a "lanyard" loop on the floor-plate. In that regard, you could take 4 or 5 magazines, loop them through the same cord and now all of your mags were accessible during combat and ready within inches for a mag change.
More importantly, they did not get lost and discarded once spent; that latter factor an extremely important issue during times of war when manufacturing and replacement magazines would be scarce to none. You can put the lanyard around your wrist, then through the loop, and through the magazine loops.
And if you had a way of looping the same lanyard ring through the mags as to the gun as well, it kept it all together in one package.-----------------------------------------------

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?Comment

I had wilson add this to my Brig Tac and it works pretty well. Nothing works better than a 1911 magwell but this is as good as it gets for 92s.I provide opinions...
