What is this ring?

What is this ring at the butt of the grip? What is its purpose? Can I replace it with something that looks a bit smoother? The ring looks awkward.

Its for lanyards.. So you dont drop your pistol from operating so hard

So you can hang a tastle for style, or a bungee lanyard to not lose your gun? Or drag it if it falls off your holder while running? Idk lol but a ton of guys at my work have them.

I think they are clunky and get in the way. But to each their own.

I have never seen an aftermarket plug without the ring, but you might bang around on some of the usual suspect sites and see if somebody makes one. You can also remove the ring by grinding/filing it off.

Other than the obvious impractical use, the lanyard loop does provide one practical function, allowing you to press on it, taking the tension off the hammer spring which allows you to remove the pin that holds the plug in place (when detail stripping, renewing the hammer spring, etc.). If you remove too much material of the loop, pressing the plug up to remove hammer spring tension will be more problematic, perhaps forcing you to go the ham fisted route of pounding that pin in and out (suboptimal).

Oh wow that really just does throw off the whole look the gun has going there, nope won't do won't do at all. That base plate is awful as well gotta go to fix the lines on that piece.

All kinda joking aside, take it out. See what it is retaining if anything and replace it accordingly.
I have a few cz's and there are plugs with and without the lanyard loop easily available.

so they won't drop the phone, i mean their gun when they have to answer the phone call and say, operator.

Honestly, it comes handy when you are jumping off from plane, have to swim, and etc... so you wont lose your sidearm.
