G17 vs G22 frame

I have a 17 frame and considering running a 22 or possibly 35 slide and 9mm conversion on it. Would I need to swap the ejector?

Not advisable as a 22 frame has an extra pin. You should go 22 to 17, not vice versa. If you're in la county I've got a g22 I might be interested in trading for a 17 or 19 gen 3. Pm me if interested.

Gen3+ (& some Gen2), will have the 3rd pin regardless of caliber.

The 9mm ejector is on the lower frame (your 17 frame), so a 22/35-40cal upper with a 9mm conversion barrel should work just fine.

But would not properly eject a .40 if I wanted to run it?

Check how many pins your frame has, op.

Either way, it's simpler and costs less to go from 22 to 17 as you don't have to buy the whole slide, which is not a whole lot less than the cost of a separate glock in .40

I haven't gone 9 to .40 so I can't comment based on experience about ejection in that situation.

I have some stock flocks already but recently purchased a new g17 to use the frame to do a zev tech build on. I would like to run the 34 slide on it but the wait time is long and I'm impatient. So I was thinking about doing a 22slide and buying both the 40 and 9 barrel, then just waiting for the 34 slide to be finished.

The frame is still on 10day so I'll have to drop by the ffl tomorrow to see how many pins it has.

It does not matter what generation. When the .40 first came out Glock built them on the 2nd generation two pin original 9MM frame. As a result of the added pressure, the two pin frames showed unacceptable wear and some number cracked. Glock then went to the three pin frame, primarily for the .40. While the 9MM does not really need the three pin frame, it made sense from a manufacturing perspective to only make one frame, so the 9MM got the 3 pin along with the .40.


The frames are identical.


Frankly, it has been too long since I went through the Glock Armorers course and I don’t have my manuals handy. I really do not remember if the ejectors need to be changed out. I think they do.
