Could I mod out a tactical xd ?

Since I'm unable to get a 9mm 5.25 xdm , could I mod out a tactical xd? I.e trigger , springs, magwell , and mags. I've been getting into 3 gun competitions and really would like a xdm or something close

    Yes, very easily.

I bough an XD9 Tactical last summer and have been researching the aftermarket options. Powder River trigger will be the first thing I buy for mine. The factory trigger isn't bad but it's something I'm going to change regardless.

Just tonight modified the slide stop lever because I felt it was too big. I kept trimming it up until my thumbs no longer rubbed it. It has about 1/8" remaining. That was my only complaint about the gun. I did the same modification to my XD45 Compact.

There should be some 5.25 in the used market (if you want to pay up $$$).

Sure you can mod a XD. There is no way to make up for the 0.25" length, but no big deal. XDM's trigger is pretty much the same as the XD (I have both and feel no diff., others will say different). Bottom line they both are not competition triggers.

Springfield has a service (expensive): http://www.springfield-armory.com/wp...orksheet_3.pdf. I say no to this, since it's easy to do it yourself on a XD if you are handy.

PRP is the trigger to get for competition. http://www.powderriverprecision.com/
Springer Precision is nice, but the PRP is more aggressively done for competition, IMO - your trigger finger may vary.

Pistol Gear is a great source for most things XD. https://www.pistolgear.com/

Bar-sto make a aftermarket fit barrel. This is where the XD lacks, alternatively Storm Lake also makes barrels for the XD. EFK, mehh. Tha's if you want a aftermarket barre.

Many sight to choose from, just go Dawson FO's front.

Want the longer sight radius maximized for competition, (on roster) you will have to go Glock 34/35 Gen3.

Well, have fun shopping and researching, totally different after PRP trigger .

Thanks guys the info its helping me decide should I just get a used tactical and work it up . I figured if I get a used one for about 450 I could drop 200-300 bucks ( if that ) and it'll be as good as a xdm.

drop in trigger and FO sights would do that gun pretty good. Everything else saved can go to bullets or reloading

For a few bucks more (tax) you can get a new one

That's awesome price for the Tactical. The best I've seen is $540 on sale at turners but only once. Normally $599.

I replaced my rear sight to get a target sight picture instead of combat sight picture for which I had to buy a sight pusher. If you plan to change sights either give it to a gunsmith who has a tool capable of pushing XD sights or send it to Springfield. There's is no brass bunch on the planet that will move these sights! Or if you're in my area I could do it but you'll be buying me lunch

+1 on Riflegear. I am in Northern Cali and I bought a rifle through them. Shipped fast and arrived in perfect condition.

The difference between the 5 and 5.25 won't be the gun, but rather the shooter.

Don't wast your money on a new barrel. For the ranges one would be shooting in "action" style matches (0-15 yards) the stock barrel works exceptional well. If you were going to compete in bulls eye target shooting at 25+ yards then sure get a fitted match barrel. I recomend to focus on the trigger, sights, interal springs and recoil system. These tuned correctly do far more than any aftermarket barrel to help you shoot fast and accurately over a wider range of competition settings.
