I know even factory loads can slip through QC, but it's factory new or my own reloads for me and my guns.

I have yet to see a squib load that pushed a round far enough into the barrel that allowed proper feeding and clambering of the next round.

The squib I had in a revolver lodged in the CB gap. It was tapped back to unlock the gun.

My .45ACP squib stuck just into the rifling. Didn't take a whole lot to tap it out.

My guess would be "it depends." Depends on the particular gun, the primer, if there's any powder at all... Saw a photo of a bullet stuck halfway out of the muzzle! Almost made it.

            I agree on all counts.

The term squib usually refers to a round loaded with no powder, just the primer. When fired in a semi these no powder squibs usually lodge the bullet just into the throat, the action doesn't cycle and a new round will not chamber when the shooter does the inevitable rack the slide. In a revolver these rounds usually leave the bullet in the gap, thankfully jamming the action.

A partial charge squib is more insidious as the bullet can be lodged farther into the barrel. With a semi, it usually doesn't cycle the action, so again the shooter must rack the slide manually before bad things happen. With a revolver, a partial charge and rapid fire is a very bad combination.

In any case, a funky ignition is not the time for tap, rack and resume the fight (unless you are in a real fight, in this case a kaboom just simplifies your options), otherwise stop, clear and inspect the bore for obstructions.

A good article about squib loads and hangfires.

Glad you caught it OP. Happened to me with factory Winchester ammo a couple years back. Fortunately, I caught it too.

Had my first squib load from my reloads a couple months ago. Smoke came ffrom the chamber not the barrel, no recoil slide didn't cycle, then I saw how black the case was when I pulled the slide back. I knew exactly what it was, I read it in the reloading section here on calguns. Since then I changed some of my reloading habits.

My one and only squib got lodged in the barrel of my revolver. I had to tap it out with a dowel, just like the NRA article says.

Good catch. Squibs are the reason why I'm afraid to buy other people's reloads. The only reloads I shoot are the ones that I reload myself.
