Springfield XD Questions

I like mine, very reliable & good price. But it's a bit blocky for carrying, I'd look into a S&W Shield for CCW.

Don't hesitate on an XD. I've got a tactical in .40sw thing shoots very straight! I sent mine in to Springfield & have the 4.5lb trigger on it w over travel stop. Never a hiccup & as others stated easy field strip. I have some 3m skate board type tape on mine.
Thing just runs!!

I have the XD sub and tactical, both in .40. I tried Glocks, M&Ps, and FN, and the XD just fit my hand better. Run quite a few tactical courses and they haven't let me down. Oh, and I'm a southpaw myself, so I understand the struggle.

I like XD and glock but eventually went with glock because they are slightly easier to take down. Still have both and would never part with a G19 or an XD9.

XD is a solid choice... I have 3 XDs, all 9mm, 2x 4" Service and 1x 3" Subcompact...

I probably have about 7000 rounds though my first XD, and probably about 10k combined.

Only issue worth reporting on is I did have to change my striker retaining pin once, and that was due to a LOT of dry fire practice when I first got it.

Clean or dirty they just work, I don't really maintain anything with any regularity...

If it feels good in your hand, and points naturally, then you should give it further consideration. Icing on the cake for me is that I shoot it well, very well.

I have 2. One in full sized 9mm and I carry the XDS .45 everyday. If you are considering a ccw, I vote for the XDS or the Shield. Handle them and you will know what is best for your own grip. You c an buy the Extended magazine if you want the feel of a larger framed pistol

The gun has a lifetime warranty... I called Springfield Armory and they mailed one to me ASAP at no charge. I bought some additional spares, but I haven't had to use them yet. I put around 5000 rounds on the replacement pin so far and no issues.

I don't use snap caps... partially because I don't do much dry fire practice anymore. Its something I did a lot when I first got the pistol... it really wans a LOT of dry firing before it became an issue. I hate using snap caps with anything striker fire anyways (without a hammer). I still dry fire on occasion, and the pin has been a non issue.

If you give the slide a deep cleaning, and remove the firing pin, the striker retainer should be replaced anyways. You should just work it into your extended maintenance plan and it would easily become a non issue.

Springfield uses regular split roll pins. If/when they break, you can upgrade to a coiled roll pin which will be stronger. PRP sells them in a 3-pack for $12. If you don't feel like getting ripped off, you can probably just find them at a hardware store for pennies each. Size is 3 mm X 16 mm.

My XD sub compact .40 is a great little gun...I like glocks..the sleek simple look and feel and obvious reliability record, but it just didn't feel right or point right for me and two of my closest buddies and sister have xd 9s and no issues...go figure Springfield might make as reliable a gun as glock....craaazzzzy.....

I have the XD in 9 and 45. I have put at least 500 rounds through each without a single hiccup. Rent it at your local range to see if you like it. Glocks are good too. It all comes down to what fits in your hand and you can shoot well with.

My first pistol was an XD9. I'm a southpaw as well.. It's a keeper for me!!!

I have a few SA XD guns. Not a bad thing I could say about any of them. If you plan to ccw, look at the XDsc find a XDs. XDm 3.8 compact is a nice ccw too

bought an xd9 back in 2004.. they were fairly new in the display case back then.. I was debating the xd or the operator that was on sale when I overheard a coup!e of guys discussing the .50bmg ban that had just passed.. I decided to take the cheaper xd to save some $$ for my .50bmg.. they laughed, I ordered my m82a1 within a month.. and ordered a custom pro a few years later..

ran a million rounds of every type of ammo imaginable with nary a problem.. it's been passed around many a range and camp shoot like cheap whore and always runs like a top.. deflowered several new shooters without a complaint..

so much a fan, I added the xds45 for carry.. found an awesome deal from a calgunner for this low mileage unit with robar grip and ample mag supply.. SA turned it around in a week for the recall and it's been a solid performer.. and out conceals a good portion of its peers in smaller calibers..

depending on the loads you're comparing, .some 45acp+p is comparable in recoil to a lot of commercially available 10mm.. at least in other frames where both are available.. I don't believe there's much or any 10mm+p out there that's readily available.. from what I've seen, most of the 'hot' 10mm is handload recipes for dangerous critters.. although these do push out past the .45..

so to get a rough idea, get yourself one of these.. which is in production..



which coincidentaly, conceals somewhat comparably to the smaller g42 envelope..

and I don't have any issues with my xds .45 with the +p pictured above, even with my girly hands.. wouldn't want to shoot it all day, but it's quite controllable through a box or two and surprisingly accurate for such a small pistol.. 7-10yd silhouette accurate for sure..




given that the shield is comparably sized to the g42/g43, this is why I chose a smaller .380 for 'concealment challenging attire'.. which also is quite controllable for the same application.. but I wouldn't take it out for session of recreational plinking of course..

in my opinion, glock's lack of imagination and innovation will do little to draw much attention to these new models from much more than existing glock fans.. I for one am not impressed with either one of them although I actually had high hopes based on all the hype.. I would suspect that if a poll was taken, the g42/g43 would be very few people's first glock..
