Anyone ever ran into this issue?

Bought this pistol, cleaned and lubed it, put it away. Opened the case a day later to show a friend the purchase and it looks like the trigger and the disassembly lever have been sitting outside for years.

    Any ideas?

Cleaned with Black can CLP. I recently changed to this stuff from hoppes. Guys at gun store told me it would work for everything with no issues.

Did you leave it in a foam lined case. Those are notorious for holding moisture, and causing rust.

You can see the foam in the background of his picture, so I think the answer is yes.

Wow---never have seen such corrosion on an HK (I have a couple)---all I've ever used for lube and rust prevention is BreakFree CLP---the only stuff I've used for decades on all my guns = no rust...

              Foam.

Only good for shaving, washing your car, and identifying a rabid dog. It has no business being around guns.

Foam isn't the problem. Air is the problem. I've had S&W revolvers stored in pelican cases for as long as 7 years with no issues whatsoever.

Unless someone swapped your CLP for rust accelerator I'd blame the foam ... learned from folks here.

Looks like that deserves a thorough tear down and inspection now.

Steel requires oxygen and water to rust.

Did you just spry it with the cleaner or dipped it ? I was cleaning my pistol like a couple weeks ago and I dipped some part in it after like 5-7 mins it starts produce some rest I wipe it off immediately and the rust is gone, I was lock to spot it early.some other part spring I spray it and left it for 5 mins the same thing.... I used CLP also.

Foam collecting moisture in the air - IS the problem. And it happens with great regularity. When that happens, the surface of the foam becomes like the ceiling of a canvas tent during a rain storm. It's all well and good until you touch it, then anything that touches it gets wet and the water leeches out of the canvas and onto anything around it.

You have gotten lucky; and as I recall, Pelican uses a foam that they coat with rust inhibitors and their cases have pressure check valves (at least my big Pelican case does). Not all foams are equal.
