    Good idea, go for it.

      LOL total mall cop troll.

The difference between you and inventors, is an inventor would learn what's needed to complete their vision.

Instead of constantly making threads asking about che' style multi-barreled select-a-round firearms with glock pistol grips with built-in drone controllers, why don't you take a machinist class and actually bring one of your hair brained ideas to life and tell us why it didn't work and what your next improvement is?

Seriously, if you're some elite armed security guard go take a class and let us know what you leaned.

I gotta ask although I'm a bit fearful of the answer. OP have you ever received any formal training, from a certified instructor beyond armed guard classes? I don't mean a video on the internet either real hands on training with live ammo.

If you're hellbent on a semi-auto with a mag retention springy thingy, buy a CZ. Still have to learn proper gun handling, though. If you're afraid of of someone taking your holstered gun, buy a good Level 2 or 3 holster and practice gun retention techniques. If all that sounds like too much trouble....GET A REVOLVER AND BE DONE WITH IT.

Errr...then don't use an extended mag release. If you have a Glock, just get old (non metal lined) mags. The don't drop free by design.

I think I'd rather have a mag that pops down about 1/4" when released, then needs to be pulled the rest of the way, or could be slapped back in.

I guess a free fall mag will save you a fraction of a second during a G35 race, but is it best for CCW purpose guns like Shield?

Any cute ways to make a Glock not free falling (besides rubber bands, etc), besides having it really, really dirty?

Maybe a tension wheel or spring mounted in the rear channel. Maybe some fuzz on a mag. Tease up some of the rubber coating.

I want to see the tension wheel mounted in the rear channel.

You should actually do it and shut all these nay-sayers right the heck up!

Oh, and the fuzz on the mags, you should totally do the fuzzy mags!

I actually liked the idea of NDF Glock mags. Now it really doesn't matter to me. If I push the mag release I prefer to have that ejected mag to fall out to clear the way for a fresh mag. If I was to do a tactical reload I will use my weak hand to break the fall of the ejected mag then clear it out of the magazine well to allow seating a fresh mag. I would then save the partially loaded mag in my left side pocket.

This is one of the stupidest things I've ever read. OP, stop coming up with ridiculous ideas and start creating them. If you state your problem statement , what you did to fix it, and show it all, you might get some support.

Until then, you just seem like you're trying to build a more complicated mousetrap.

OP, the early 1900's cavalry called... they say that they want their theory back. They didn't like magazines that dropped free either, it was a long reach down from the saddle to get them back. Maybe you should install a lanyard on your magazines instead; it worked for them, didn't it?

Learn to use the pistol as its designers intended and you'll find that it will work just fine. If the extended mag release bothers you, then reinstall the original magazine release and have done with it instead of inventing crazy theories to justify your inability to handle your pistol correctly.

Troll rating of OP: 5 out of 10. Good attempt, but not good enough.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

Well as long as you add some bling to that so it will look like Tacticool jewelry, you might be onto something.

I don't find the idea completely ridiculous. What's more of a hassle under duress, yanking the mag out or having to bend down and pick it up off the ground, possibly in the dark? That said, I think the better solution is to get rid of any gun that causes you to accidentally drop the mag, if it's a gun intended for defense use. Remember Murphy's law. Or change your handling of the gun to where you're POSITIVE it's never going to happen again. I can honestly say I've never accidentally dropped a mag on any gun, but then I'm primarily a target shooter, and don't do a lot of speed drills, etc.

Wow.. Lack of knowledge on behalf of the readership now constitutes the questioner to be a "troll"? You people that are labeling this a "troll question" quite obviously have little understanding of the history of design principals for the semi-auto pistol. The concept of "free-fall" magazine ejection is an American v.s. European debate that goes back to the 1970's.

Also to be clear, European magazines weren't designed to drop just 1/4-inch, but rather 1/4 length of the magazine. While the use of lanyards has its roots in the days of mounted cavalry troops, the newer retention method was born from the battlefield conditions from the days of trench warfare when dropping a magazine may well have rendered it inoperable due to contamination.

I watched this debate rage on all throughout the 1980's during the "development heyday" of what was called the "wonder 9's" (9mm pistols with double-stack magazines).

In the mid 80's I had the opportunity to purchase a genuine European CZ75 - which at that time was one of the most highly regarded pistols of the day. It has a large, flat piece of spring steel which slows magazine ejection to hold when half-way free of the magwell. The beauty of this design is that it is simple to tune to the shooter's preference. I adjusted mine to drop-free as that is my preference. No, I don't let my mags hit the ground but instead have a method of catching the empty mag while holding a full one in the same hand. I then rotate my hand to insert the fresh magazine.

So, to take his discussion a bit further, lets not forget to discuss "positive eject" magazines. Taking the drop-free idea to the next step, I wonder how many people prefer "mousetrap" magazines? My Browning Highpower uses magazines that have a spring that allows the gun to fully eject magazines even when the gun is held upside down. Since I've removed the magazine disconnect from my Highpower, those magazines really come flying out when I hit the release! So before anyone labels me to be a troll or liar, do 5 minutes of research and learn that positive eject mousetrap magazine are actually a real thing.

It is ridiculous because unless I'm involved in a struggle for control of my weapon, I am not going to accidentally drop a mag. I am not running extended mag releases and in order for the mags to be dropped I have to take a physical action to do so. In short, if I'm dropping a mag, it's because I want to and I have another ready to load. If I'm in a struggle for my weapon and I drop the mag then it is nothing more than a hammer at that point and I'm stabbing my assailant.

Opinions are like *******s around here, everyone has one and mine is that I do not mod my carry guns except for grips and sights. What anyone else does is not my problem and as said many times above, OP is nothing more than a Mall Ninja troll with an over active imagination.
