Certified Pre Owned Sigs

Life as a teacher means limited budget. I want a Sig 220 (preferrably an r model but I am not too hung up on it). I have seen the 220r for $700 on the internet, but have also seen the certified pre owned sigs for 485 on the internet. At that price I could almost throw in a 229 9mm as well. What are your thoughts about the used versions of the sigs? I know it's a good quality gun, but should I go all out and get the new model? Thanks in advance.

I own 8 sigs not including my duty weapon. In my opinion you can't break them. The only exception is old stamped uppers, and only after very high round count with serious abuse. You would be fine with any used sig or factory refurbish IMHO.

Now looks doesnt make a gun, but that didn't work for me. If you can see the gun and you like it, then it may be a good deal, but don't go for the ones you have to order from Sig to your FFL without seeing it.

True, however most law enforcment guns are carried a lot and shot a little.

I see LEO trade-in Sigs all the time and they're all pretty nice. Very few have worn bores, and the trigger is already broken in (IMHO, it feels much better than out of the box)

I see them usually run around $450.

I bought a certified pre-owned 229 from Turner's, and have had no problem whatsoever. A friend of mine did too, and he had some weird wear pattern on the slide. I think he was talking to Sig about shipping it to them for them to look into it - they were pretty accessible and willing to look into it.

I wouldn't hesitate on a pre-owned Sig, if you have the chance to inspect it in person first.

Anyone +1 for CPO sigs....

I have on two occations shot a CPO sig--once right after it was bought. Some are flawless! Both the pistols I shot were spot on, and as mentioned had pretty good triggers to start with.

All that being said---it's a sig. It will not let you down.

And some of them are LE test equipment with <100 rounds. I got my CPO P220 with a BLACK barrel - I put my OWN smilies on it.

Are there any major upgrades that have happened over the last few years that I would be missing out on with a CPO? What about the getting an 8 round magazine vs a 7 round?

I've bought (3) CPO SIGs: (2) P229R's and (1) P226R. To be honest, both the P229R's were like new. The 9mm one didn't look like it'd been touched. The .40S&W one looked like it'd been shot a few times, but barely broken in. The P226R, on the other hand, had some slight external wear. When I broke it down, the internals looked bright and new.

All three pistols were demo pistols. They were taken to shows and people were allowed to fondle them. Happily, I got each of them for under $525. The P229R .40S&W and the P226R were bought from Ordnance Outsellers while the P229R 9mm was purchased from Mactec.

I haven't seen a CPO P220R yet; I have seen CPO P220STs though. The CPO P220s that I've seen in Southern California have been beat to hell. A buddy of mine bought one, and it looked horrible. It functioned well, but it looked like someone dragged it behind a car for a few miles. It shot really well (with the exceptions of the horrible reloads that he purchased). The price he paid was more than the CPO's that I got from out of state. That just ain't right.
