Springfield, try again!

If Springfield could make a product that DIDNT require "warranty work" maybe they'd get some of my business. Too many of us fell for that ultra cool gun mag advertisement with the SWAT officer walking out of the crime seen and that bad a@@ looking Springfield Custom.

Have any of you had experience with the Springfield Scopes? I have one and it blows, I am hoping to do something with the warranty - I wonder if they give store credit or issue a refund.

No, no recent extractor work. I just recieved the gun and tried it out the other day. When I first began shooting, everything was going smooth. It was only when it became very dirty that the problem emerged (about 200 or so rounds into shooting). I also thought it could be the magazine because the oem springfield ones felt kind of "wobbly" when inserted in the pistol.

Sorry, LOTS of stuff on my plate right now and I hadn't been checking lately and this topic slipped my mind.

I real quick scanned over the thread again and I don't recall you saying what model you have. Is the barrel plated in ANY way (chrome, etc)? You bought it new from a dealer that got it straight from Springfield or an armory type of dealer, correct? Do you notice anything percuilar on the case itself after it jams; notches, scratches, etc?

I purchased it used from a person who put 50 rounds through it. Nothing odd about the casing, I examined one after a jam, I didn't notice anything.

I would suggest trying a newer, higher quality, mag. I have three springfield 7 rounders that have not had any problem for me, and I would not hesitate to grab them in an emergency. However, that doesn't mean that ALL of their mags will be great. You may have a magazine that is just in perfect condition; the previous owner may have even played with/damaged the feed lips, replaced the mag spring, etc. It sounds to me like you just have a bad magazine that needs to be replaced, but I would not instantly discredit Springfield as a bad mag company. They aren't the best, but they function for me, and what more can anyone ask for from a magazine.

Try a new mag (or several) and come back and let us know if that fixes it.

The factory mags were less-than so-so - occasionally seemed to drag, last-round problems, etc.

Replaced mags w/Colt Officer's ACP mag and the gun ran just fine. (These mags were probably not made by Colt but by a 3rd party vendor like MecGar.)

Before doing any work on a Springfield 1911, go try reliable mags in it first and see how the gun behaves.

Like Bill, I had the same problems with my Ultra Compact using factory mags. Just for ha-ha's I tried a couple of Wilson 8-rounders, with no hiccups whatsoever. I ended up buying a few Wilson 7-round Officers mags that dont stick out like the regular mags, and they have not failed me yet.

Oooh, CMC mags may run in race guns OK. Dunno about others....

.... they sure as hell didn't work in my bone-stock, well-maintained, not-highly-used
Colt Series 70 (blued) and Series 80 (stls) 5" 1911s.

One CMC mag had repeated problems w/last round feed, the other wouldn't hold the slide locked open after last round.

I returned them to the vendor and later got some Colt-labelled mags at a gunshow.

I too have a SA Inc. ultra compact... I bought it used for $300 froma gentleman that never could get it to work right.. it had less than 200rnds through it... I changed out the recoil spring with one from Wilson Combat and got a few Wilson Combat mags... it works perfectly.... before, it wouln't even feed 230gr FMJ's!
