Handgun decisions...

I am going to be purchasing another handgun very soon here and I am not 100% sure what to get...

I have narrowed it down to these 4...

Springfield XDM .40
Springfield XD .45 5"
S & W 10+1 .45
Glock 21

I would rather have another Kimber but, I am trying to keep the cost low.

Which would you choose and why?

I thought the XD "M" is not CA legal?

im sure somebody FAR more knowledgeable will chime in though.

BTW- im looking at almost the same list, but on top of mine is the Smith Wesson M&P .40

Are you LE...? Because the XDM is not on the California approved list. Get a HK USP 45! or get a Glock 21SF if you want to keep the budget on the lower end.

I'd choose a Glock. Never had any issues with them, so that's for reliability. The ones I have/tried sit well in my hand, and they're accurate for their respective sizes, as well. Field stripping and cleaning is easy, as well, and even the range guns I tried (which were uite dirty) performed well. I heard some people had issues with Glock 19, but I have one with about 4K rounds through it (mostly Winchester white box, but it took anything I threw at it, including the range reloads, shame to say), and haven't had a single issue. My favorite is Glock 35 though, G34 is close second (I just like .40).

Also, Glocks have polygonal "rifling". The rest on that list, I believe, have conventional rifling.

In my opinion, nothing beats the Glock: reliability, weight, cost. I prefer, lower center of gravity of the Glock over XDs. Also, it seems like, it is not possible to get and replace parts by yourself in XDs, you must send them over to Springfield. Glocks are much better in this regard too. If you worried about oem not fully supported chamber in Glocks and potential KBs, there are plenty of third party barrels which can fix that.

Any of the .45ACP pistols you listed will serve you well.
Glock 21 or 21SF, S&W M&P-45, Springfield Armory XD-45
They are all accurate, reliable handguns.
Choose the one that best fits your hand.




The Springfield Armory XDm series is not on the CA approved list and will never be on the approved list (no mag disconnect, CA approved LCI).
However, it can be sold via PPT. So, in the next year or so, start looking in the "used" market for them to turn up. Expect to pay more than retail for them. Also, note that there are no 10 round magazines for them. So, you would have to permanently modify the large capacity magazines to 10 rounds.

If the Smith you are talking about is the M&P I'd buy that. Much less felt recoil than the XD or the Glock.

It might be a little bit cheaper and it comes with a rebate for 2 extra mags. The difference in cost wouldn't sway me if I liked one of the others.

I can't believe I'm for a Smith auto because I've never liked any of the others they made.
