That's a nice stainless steel Mil-Spec...
I'm a Rock Island Armory fan, myself. But, the Springfield Armory Mil-Spec is a simple, reliable 1911. If I had to choose a production 1911, and decided to leave it just as it came from the factory, I'd get a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec in stainless steel. It's a good choice. Any of those guns you listed should be good to go. Unless you have an over abundance of money, in my opinion, there is no need to spend more on a first 1911.Originally posted by Nrai2020Hey guys looking at getting my first 1911... OP, go with the springfield if this is your first. It is usually a good purchase.
Did you just admit to a straw man purchase? Maybe I am unclear

First 1911
I'd recommend a Dan Wesson PM-7. It's a bit pricier (I think) than the others listed by the OP, but it may be the finest. At least I think it is.
It is unlikely that the OP won't like 1911's but if he doesn't, it will retain very high market value. And if he does, there will be no need (though there may be a 'want') to buy a second one.
The market is loaded with the brands on the OP's pole. DW's, not so much. Last time I looked, Bud's had them.

A little about me...I value quality over quantity. I would rather have one really nice thing than a bunch of "ok" things. I believe in "buy once cry once". And I also don't believe in buying a "starter" widget on the way up the ladder to a better widget...assuming that a better widget is the ultimate goal. My first 1911 was a Wilson Combat.Originally posted by Nrai2020Hey guys looking at getting my first 1911... Pretty close to getting a Springfield arms... And I'm not knocking any of the lower/mid level guns. I just knew for myself personally that what I ultimately wanted was a Wilson. So I held of and saved until I could afford one. YMMV"Kestryll I wanna lick your doughnut."

Youre lucky, my RIA was a nightmare. Wouldn't return to battery, FTF's, FTE's, stovepipes...etc.I have three rocks. A 45 and two 9's. Love them. I also have a 70 series colt in 45. Love it too.
Rocks are great 1911's. Do they look fancy? Nope. Do they shoot great? Yes. Will you notice the difference between a $600 and a $1200 1911? Probably not.
Most important thing for 1911's, as mentioned earlier, is magazines. DO NOT skimp there. Cheap mags are the ruin of any 1911.
I probably would have sent it to RIA to fix it up but I was shooting it next to my STI and Baer and they spoiled me so bad that I foolishly gave up on my RIA as I thought it 'unworthy' next to my nicer 1911s.
Since then I have regretted selling it as Im sure with a little smithing and TLC it would have been a nice gun, but hindsights always 20/20Unless we keep the barbarian virtues, gaining the civilized ones will be of little avail. I would put high value at Trophy Match at $1060 (& fees).
It's basically a non rail TRP (fit) - but not a TRP with target sights.
+front strap checkering (aggressive for some) and +mag well over the Colt and DW.
Good luck, get what you want even if you have to wait and save.Comment
